Song of the Day and Lyrics – Feel As Though You Could (Demon Hunter) From World Is A Thorn

Feel As Though You Could Artwork

Feel As Though You Could From The World Is A Thorn, Demon Hunter artwork

Feel As Though You Could is arguably my favorite track from The World Is A Thorn, Demon Hunter’s previous album. However due to the hard-to-remember name of the song, it’s a track that is easily forgotten and I think it’s one of their lesser known songs.

However it has some of the best lyrics on the entire album in my humble opinion, and is one of the heaviest songs on the album as well (along with Tie This Around Your Neck).

Unfortunately I don’t like the bridge of this song nor the ending. The song is strongest during the first two verses, both of which are amazing. Enjoy!

Feel As Though You Could Lyrics from Demon Hunter (The World Is A Thorn):

REBELLION!!!!!!!!!
Oh cheap thrills and vacant youth
Carry out your own will
Shovel deep and bury truth

Social stain
PUNK WRECK
Mother’s own . . .
DEFECT
Sing that song you know so well
SING IT ONE FOOT IN HELL

EYES
WIDE
BLACK

TURN
YOUR
BACK!!!!!!!

Oh how the foolish will see . . . . . . . . .
How every man he does bleed . . . . . .

THE VULTURES
CIRCLE
HALO OF THE DEAD
Another
VICIOUS
CYCLE
SWALLOW WHAT YOUR FED

And now
THE VULTURES
CIRCLE
HALO OF THE DEAD
Another
VICIOUS
CYCLE
Be true to your DISSENT

Somehow . . . Feel . . .
Feels though . . .
You could . . .
Somehow . . .
In all your petty suffering (suffering)
BURN THIS DOWN

REJECTION!!!!!!!
Of weak trends and fake hate
This is what you’re fighting for?
Some fools MISTAKE

I WILL DEVOUR YOU
I’LL OVERPOWER YOU
Rise from the ashes
Screaming ETERNITY

THE VULTURES
CIRCLE
HALO OF THE DEAD
Another
VICIOUS
CYCLE
SWALLOW WHAT YOUR FED

And now
THE VULTURES
CIRCLE
HALO OF THE DEAD
Another
VICIOUS
CYCLE
Be true to your DISSENT

Somehow . . . Feel
Feels though . . .
You could . . .
Somehow . . .
In all your petty suffering (suffering)

GO!!!!!!

OHHHHHHHHHHH
Ignite (ignite)
Upon (upon)
These words (these words)
And breathe defeat

Your shallow deeds
Make hell
FOR
Wood and stone
Flesh and bone
THIS ALONE!!!!

Somehow . . . Feel . . .
FEELS THOUGH
You could . . .
Somehow . . .
In all your petty suffering (suffering)
BURN THIS DOWN

……BURNTHISDOWN…… *repeat*

Behind the Song – Feel As Though You Could (By Ryan Clark, lead vocalist of Demon Hunter and writer of all their material)

The heavy metal scene is a culture steeped in pointless, juvenile rebellion. In some extreme cases, some delusional metalheads have murdered and raped for what they see as a rebellious or “true metal” lifestyle. More specifically, there are a number of church burning occurrences that led me to write this song. I understand that these burnings were committed in an attempt to regain some supposed pagan landscape, however, I would also assume that the real goal is to destroy Christianity, and not just a building. With logic now introduced in the scenario, I offer the concept that you cannot physically burn down something existing in a spiritual realm, therefore attempts at destroying something that dwells within our souls are futile.

“But the temple he had spoken of was his body.” – John 2:21

Lead vocalist Ryan Clark in the 4th iTunes Album Podcast Episode: “The lyrics of the song Feel As Though You Could are specifically about youthful rebellion, more particularly in the metal scene itself. I think that alot of fans take the subversive nature of metal a little bit too far and bring it into their own lives. And the way that manifests itself alot of the time is through sometimes violent rebellion or just mindless rebellion. This song to me just points out those aspects of the scene that are immature and disrespectful. These things are a common byproduct in the metal scene. I think people like to be subversive for the sake of being subversive, but to me it’s just a sign of immaturity.” – Ryan Clark, Demon Hunter

Oh Sleeper Stand Your Ground iPhone Game Released!

Stand Your Ground App titlescreen and logo

Oh Sleeper's videogame Stand Your Ground for the App Store by developer EMI Records Limited.

Oh Sleeper, the titanic Christian metal band from Solid State Records, has released a videogame based on their hit album “Children of Fire”! That’s right, A VIDEOGAME. Compelete with 8bit renditions of 10 Children of Fire songs!

Stand Your Ground is now purchasable via the App Store for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad for the measly cost of $3 bucks!

“Stand Your Ground” is the first time Solid State has entered this new level of promotion, and hopefully creating videogames based on awesome albums will be the wave of the future! Children of Fire, the album, was released by Oh Sleeper on September 6, 2011 to rave reviews; many calling it the best Oh Sleeper album to date and one of the best metal albums of last year; with critics hailing that Children of Fire has elevated Oh Sleeper to the level of bands like UnderOath, August Burns Red, The Chariot and As I Lay Dying.

Here is the official trailer for Stand Your Ground! So far the game has garnered excellent reviews, with a five star rating and over 50 people giving it the highest rating on the App Store of Five Stars!

Children of Fire received rave reviews, garnering a 9.5 out of 10 from Ultimate Guitar, 4 out of 5 by Sputnik Music, 86% out of 100 from Absolute Punk, 5 Stars out of 5 by The New Review (with a female giving her take on the album), 4.5 Stars out of 5 (and 5 out of 5 from a second opinion) from Jesus Freak Hideout, and secular outfit 5 out of 5 by Heavy Blog Is Heavy! So if you haven’t purchased “Children of Fire”, definitely go out there and pick the album up or purchase Children of Fire on Amazon or iTunes, etc.

The release of Stand Your Ground marks a new foray into the fusion of music and gaming with a full-fledged and immersive side-scrolling arcade-style videogame based on the storyline of the band’s latest album, ‘Children of Fire.’ An album that continues the concept from the bands previous album “Son of the Morning” and takes place in the aftermath of the war between God and Satan. Which gives us some very interesting intellectual nuggets to chew on.

In the game players will battle through multiple levels of enemy forces, in classic beat-em up style, collecting power-ups that allow you to improve your conquering abilities and summoning allies to help you in your quest. Solid State insists that Stand Your Ground is not just a “promotional gimmick”, but is a fully-fldedged title that will appeal to gamers on all levels, who are looking for a rich action experience. Stand Your Ground will offer replay value for those who’ve completed the main quest, and it contains a rich storyline and unique cast of characters that players will grow to love. Fans of games like Golden Axe, Swords & Soldiers, Patapon or Plants vs Zombies are ensured to enjoy “Stand Your Ground”.

They’ve waited so long for the rescue.Anchored by glory, you’re a war machine moving fast to reclaim this pale grey landscape of savage darkness. It’s time to tear down and rebuild this world. With blistering heat, the enemy bursts through. Show no mercy when the gates swing. Just past the gold-stained bones, you’ll find the new sign of proof. Stand and believe that it’s true. You hold the voice to change the sea, so pick yourself up and fight. No truce or compromise. Grip your axe and swing until the cowards bleed. This kingdom’s end is written. Take it one on one thousand. Ignite the world and let it burn.

BE THE HERO YOU’VE ALWAYS DENIED

* Lead your unwavering army of allegiant fighters into battle
* Call in Oh, Sleeper sonic artillery in the assault on your savage foes

ALL-NEW ARCADE VERSIONS OF OH, SLEEPER SONGS
* Game includes retro-style renditions of new tracks and old favorites

Here’s a trailer for the album “Children of Fire” by Oh Sleeper!

“We are so pumped to release this project to the masses,” explains OH, SLEEPER frontman Micah Kinard. “This adventure allows the gamer to step into the boots of a
warrior, pick up his axe, and traverse through the storyline of our latest album, Children of Fire. We are always looking for ways to allow our listeners to delve deeper into our concepts and we think ‘Stand Your Ground’ is the perfect way to do this. Plus, who doesn’t love video games!?”

Children of Fire itself has been a force to be reckoned with, debuting at #142 on the Billboard 200 and, more importantly, hitting #1 on the iTunes metal charts and maintaining that position in the Top 10 for months. The album got lots of praise from critics and fans alike, who called it their best work yet.

Oh, Sleeper has built a dedicated international fanbase on tours with Bring Me The Horizon, Underoath, Every Time I Die, Demon Hunter, Silverstein, Finch and more. Their “broken pentagram” symbol has become synonymous with breaking from societal norms, uplifting spirits and merging melody with might.

Here is the song “In the Wake of Pigs” off of Children of Fire by Oh Sleeper! It’s a song with a powerful message!

The Armored March EP announced the arrival of Oh, Sleeper upon the heavy music scene with intense raw power. Their debut full-length album, When I Am God, sold over 30,000 copies based on the strength of its songs, the group’s live show and the music video for “Vices Like Vipers,” which remains a staple of the group’s setlist.

The broken pentagram symbol made its first appearance on the bold cover for Son of the Morning, the Sophomore effort and second album from Oh Sleeper. The graphic quite literally subverts and “evil” symbol of the pentagram by breaking off the top points that represent the horns, in direct reference to the line “I’ll cut off your horns!” which Kinard screams while posturing as the voice of God against the devil in the title song “Son of the Morning vs The Finisher”. Many fans have connected with the purpose associated with this new symbol and have tattooed it upon their bodies in droves, and it’s become a new staple of the “White Metal” scene that represents positive, Christian metal.

Here is the 2012 Oh Sleeper tour schedule. They are currently on tour with The Devil Wears Prada, Every Time I Die and Letlive.

Song of the Day and Lyrics – The Wind (Demon Hunter). Single from Happy Christmas 5 Via Tooth & Nail Records

The Wind by Demon Hunter

Fanmade artwork for Demon Hunter's THE WIND single off of Tooth & Nail's "Happy Christmas Volume 5" album from December 2011

The Wind from Demon Hunter, lyrics included below, is Demon Hunter’s first Christmas song Single, released as part of Tooth & Nail’s “Happy Christmas Volume 5″ annual compilation, made up of songs from the entire Tooth & Nail/Solid State family. Other artists who appeared on the album included Hawk Nelson, Thousand Foot Krutch, August Burns Red, Bon Voyage, Queens Club, FM Static, Surrogate, Neon Horse, Family Force 5, Sent By Ravens, Ivoryline, Emery and Copeland. Quite the lineup! The album was released at the tail-end of 2011 last year, to celebrate Christmas.

Demon Hunter jumped on the bandwagon and offered up a really unique song called, quite simply, “The Wind”. Given that this song is a single and was not released on any previous album, many fans have never heard the song. The song could be classified as rock, and is a slow piece that lacks in any growling. However Ryan Clark’s deep voice shines on this piece and you’ll likely be very satisfied. I love the church bells at the beginning. Be sure to have the volume low at the start because the instrumental in the opening is hard to hear, so you’ll be tempted to turn it up, but then it kicks in with a really loud opening vocal compared to the quiet that comes before it.

The Wind Lyrics:

These city lights illuminate your BREATH…
As you tell of all the ways that you feel DEAD

December left you COLD and ALONE
I’M SORRY but I have enough to fear on my OWN…..

Dying to care…
I’m searching for some SOLACE in this AIR…

But THE WIND
It cuts to my bone
THE WIND
This hollow breath of COLD

The snowflakes fall like ASHES into DIRT
Like every hope that ROSE and dissolved into HURT…

Dying to care
I’m searching for some SOLACE in this AIR…

But THE WIND
It cuts to my bone
THE WIND
This hollow breath of COLD
THE WIND
It cuts to my bone
THE WIND

In WINTER’S ARMS I feel AT HOME

And I won’t LET GO

But I will take you with ME
Right to THE END

But the wind
It cuts to my bone
The wind
This hollow breath of cold….
THE WIND
It cuts to my BONE
THE WIND
This hollow breath of cold….
THE WIND
It cuts to my BONE
THE WIND
In WINTER’S ARMS I feel at HOME

OH I FEEL AT HOME

Song Video of the Day: Get Well by Icon For Hire

Icon For Hire Awesome Photo

Icon for Hire and their girl singer, with her awesome pink/purple hair! :D

Icon For Hire is a girl-fronted band formed in 2007 and signed to Tooth & Nail Records! If you like Flyleaf or Paramore, then you’re sure to enjoy the heavy rock sound and female-powered vocals of this new group.

The following music video is for their song “Get Well” off of their debut album, “Scripted”.

The music video is quite interesting and really well shot, with cool scenes of the lead singer trapped in a room and slow-motion effects that really give it a cinematic quality. You also gotta love the passion that the lead singer, named Ariel, brings to the song. The four-piece also features Shawn Jump on Guitar, Josh Kincheloe on Bass and Adam Kronshagen on Drums. All of them coalesce to bring the house down! I also gotta love those feet-shots… Damn this clean-feet girl foot fetish of mine! :P

Ahem.

Lyrics for Get Well by Icon For Hire:

We throw tantrums like parties
We’re not happy ’til everyone knows we’re sick…
And that’s just how we like it
We’ve hurt bad enough
Right? We’ve earned it

Don’t tell the others but it’s all getting old
I mean, how many more times must our stories be told?
And being lonely’s only fun in a group…
It sorta loses it’s charm when it’s true

I meant it when I said
“I wanna get well, I wanna get well”
Are the rest of you so content?
Then stay where you are, but it hurts like HELP
And I’m sure it’s fun at first…
Test your pulse and check your vitals
If it’s only a game, you lost me
I quit it with the suicidal recital

So now you know all my secrets…
I want out
I know I don’t need THIS
Can you find me friends that don’t rank me on what I’ve been through?
The more our battle scars
The more attention it gets YOU

Don’t tell the others but it’s all getting old
I mean, how many more times must our stories be told?
And being lonely’s only fun in a group…
It sorta loses it’s charm when it’s true

I meant it when I said
“I wanna get well, I wanna get well”
Are the rest of you so content?
Then stay where you are, but it hurts like HELP
And I’m sure it’s fun at first…
Test your pulse and check your vitals
If it’s only a game, you lost me
I quit it with the suicidal recital

Yeah, we should’ve known it would end this way…
What did you expect, pretend it all the way?
And all we got left is a sorry pile of hearts…
I’m getting out, gonna write myself a new start

C’mon, dry your eyes, meet me on the other side
Run as fast as you can and we’ll make it out alive
We know better now, we don’t have to it live like this
Go tell ‘em all we don’t have to live like THIS!

(I meant it when I said, “I wanna get well”…)

I meant it when I said
“I wanna get well, I wanna get well”
Are the rest of you so content?
Then stay where you are, but it hurts like HELP
And I’m sure it’s fun at first
Test your pulse and check your vitals
If it’s only a game, you lost me
I quit it with the suicidal recital

If it’s only a game, you lost me
I quit it with the suicidal recital

Icon For Hire Band Photo

Icon For Hire and the super hot lead singer Ariel and her amazing hair! Awesome outfit too. :P

Icon For Hire have certainly got my attention! I really need to check out this album. It’s now on my wishlist! Been quite a while since I listened to a female-fronted band of this style. I’m a big Flyleaf fan. But I’m itching for something new!

Icon For Hire is currently touring with Emery on the “Emery and Friends” tour; which also features fellow labelmates Sent By Ravens and I Am Empire. That tour is wrapping up soon and will end on March 25th. Then the band is going on a HUGE tour with Red, P.O.D. and Brian “Head” Welch (formerly of Korn)! Talk about an amazing lineup! I’d give anything to see that show!

Good Reads, Useful Links, Interesting Stories From Around the Web

Newspaper Reading

Good Reads, Useful Links and Interesting Articles Of the Web.... Ahh, just like the good ol' days! Hope you got your coffee ready!

Looking for useful articles, interesting stories or good reads from around the Internets? Look no further!

This article will be a ever-growing and continuously updated feature that contains, essentially, everything I read on the web! Will it be a gigantic list? Abso-freakin-lutely it will! But that’s kind of the point. Basically, everything I read will be inserted here for others to read.

If you enjoy this article please like it at the top of the website and share it on Facebook and Twitter, I’d greatly appreciate it! And leave a comment if you’re so inclined. :)

This will also double as a useful resource for myself to find previous articles, stories, useful links, etc. since I never check my own Bookmarks folder and it’s grown so large and full of random stuff that its beyond unwieldy and irrelevant :P So hopefully this will be a nice and easy way for me to find what I’ve previously read. Hopefully you’ll find some interesting things here as well, I’ll try to divide it up so has some order, and will include a brief description about each story and where it came from.

What I Read In March 2012

FOX NEWS
These are stories from Fox News.com or one of the Fox News or News Corp-related websites.

Beware of Christians – An article on the documentary film “Beware of Christians”, which is actually a Christian film.

Raquel Welch Says Americans Are All Sex Addicts, Blames Porn – Reports on an interview in Men’s Health with the statements from the 71-year old.

Man vs Wild Discontinued – “NOOOOOO” (My reaction to this story), Bear Grylls is out of work with the Discovery Channel after they axed him and his hit show, Man vs Wild (One of my favorites) after 7 seasons for the 37-year-old survivalist and ex-British soldier; all due to contract disputes. In some ways, I think its good that Grylls stood up to the executives, even though his show got axed. He should start a web series where he does the same essential thing.

Megyn Kelly on Bill O’Reilly Discussing Her Opposite View of Sandra Fluke – Megyn, whom I adore, appears on The O’Reilly Factor with Bill O’Reilly, and talks about how she went to law school as well, and how these people are the upper-echelons of society. While Sandra Fluke is complaining about not getting contraception paid for as part of health insurance, Megyn talks about how she, and many others in America, have NO insurance, much less contraception. And never asked that it be required. Especially someone at that level, who has more-than the means to pay for it themselves. Interesting. Includes video and transcript. Song Video of the Day: Eivor – Trollabundin

Eivor Trollabundin Art

Artwork for Eivor's amazing Trollabundin song

Eivør – Trøllabundin is an amazing musical piece that will test your very perceptions of what music is.

If you enjoy this article and song, please like it at the top of the website and share it on Facebook and Twitter, I’d greatly appreciate it! And leave a comment if you’re so inclined. :)

I figured it was about time I start to share random videos I come across on youtube that I think are interesting. In this case it is a song as well, so in such circumstances I will label these posts as “Song Video”. I suppose I should just say “Music Video”, but they aren’t all technically music videos per say.

As stated, this song by the beautiful, unique, and wholly captivating artist “Eivør”, will challenge everything you think you know about great music, and proves without a shadow of a doubt that less can indeed be more. The simplicity and yet inherent complexity of this performance and musical piece is absolutely spellbinding, and it is unlike anything you have seen, or heard, before.

Unless perhaps you hail from the Faroe Islands (in between Scotland and Iceland), where Eivor is from. She is of Faroese descent, obviously the native peoples of that island. This is all so foreign to me that I will not attempt to explain anymore, but if you look her up on wikipedia you can learn more on your own.

Either way, she is completely 100% new to me. And suffice it to say that I was “blown away”. In fact, that is a vast and incredible understatement! The intensity and passion of her performance in this song is simply second-to-none. ENJOY!

They also released their documentary DVD/album 45 Days in 2008, their live album “Live In Nashville” in 2009 and a compilation album “Death, A Destination” last year in 2011. True Defiance obviously, is their 2012 album.

Be sure to pre-order Demon Hunter’s True Defiance and pick up one of the extra special edition packages which will include two additional songs (just like on Storm the Gates of Hell, where the two additional songs were two of the best on the album!) and tons of extras, with more extras for the more expensive bundles.

Hit the link to the Demon Hunter store above to pre-order the album and you’ll also see the full tracklist, be weary to avoid your gaze if you don’t want to ruin the tracklist! As for me, I will be avoiding all things Demon Hunter until release day! No spoilers for me!

True Defiance will be produced by Aaron Spinkle and mixed by Jason Suecof.

Jason has mixed albums for All That Remains, August Burns Red, Dir en Grey, Chimaira, DevilDriver, Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder and more. He produced and wrote for the band Trivium and plays guitar for his newest band, Charred Walls of the Damned by Howard Stern writer Richard Christy (ex-Iced Earth).

Here is their brand new song “Someone To Hate” off True Defiance!

Veteran Demon Hunter producer Aaron Sprinkle returns and has procuded all their previous albums, he has worked for Anberlin, Aaron Gillespie, The Almost, Hawk Nelson, Ivoryline, Jeremy Camp, Project 86, Seven Places, Mae, Emery, Dead Poetic, Thousand Foot Krutch, Mxpx and many more.

If you aren’t familiar with Demon Hunter, they are titans of the Christian metal scene who premiered with a punch in 2002 (formed in 2000) with their self-titled album.

Every year since they have shaken the very foundation of the metal music industry with high-quality songs, intense diversity in style, beautiful slow-paced ballads and superior writing that put them on the map and built legions of fans in both the Christian and secular realms.

Fronted by co-founder and vocalist Ryan Clark (who created the band with his brother Don, who used to be a band member as well), Demon Hunter features a unique Demon Head logo (a demon with a bullet through its forehead) that serves as the album artwork for each album; with different spins and artstyles on the Demon Head.

Ryan Clark also serves as a lead artist for Demon Hunter’s label, Solid State of Tooth & Nail Records, and typically has a hand in the production of the artwork for virtually every band on the label. He also runs his own art company with his brother Don, known as Asterik Studio, who have created artwork for tons of mainstream artists including Kanye West, Liz Phair, P.O.D., The White Stripes and many more.

Suffice it to say, Demon Hunter is my favorite band and I CANNOT WAIT until the release of True Defiance! I own every Demon Hunter album (some multiple times over) and have most of their albums signed! I’ve me the band in person no less than three times, talked with Ryan Clark in person and have several pictures taken with them. I’ve been to three Demon Hunter concerts so far.

Here is a behind the scenes look at the upcoming album!

If you’re a fan of metal you owe it to yourself to pre-order True Defiance! If you aren’t a fan of Demon Hunter, YOU’RE MISSING OUT! Check out their stuff and jump on the new album!

I’ll be posting as much of their music as I can, everyday, leading up to the release of True Defiance, so if you aren’t a fan of the band; then keep your eyes on Watch Us Play Games and get pumped!
