The initial trailer for the upcoming Street Fighter film garnered significant praise for its self-aware embrace of 1990s camp, and the latest preview doubles down on this commitment.
Following a grand reveal at The Game Awards, where the cast made a memorable appearance, the new trailer continues to showcase the film’s energetic and chaotic take on the iconic fighting game franchise. It features a diverse cast, including characters from the first two games and the Alpha series. Maintaining a lighthearted and campy tone, the trailer is available for viewing below, complete with a nostalgic nod to “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes.
In contrast to the 1994 live-action adaptation, this new Street Fighter boasts a star-studded cast: David Dastmalchian portrays M. Bison, Jason Momoa is Blanka, Cody Rhodes plays Guile, Roman Reigns embodies Akuma, Andrew Schulz is Dan Hibiki, Mel Jarnson takes on Cammy, Callina Liang is Chun-Li, and Andrew Koji stars as Ryu, among others. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film centers on a fighting tournament where series protagonists Ryu and Ken Masters find themselves at the heart of the action.
Chun-Li enlists their help, uncovering a conspiracy orchestrated by the tournament’s leader, M. Bison. Ryu and Ken must navigate this intrigue while battling formidable opponents and, it seems, a heavy dose of 1990s nostalgia. The trailer even includes a scene where a car serves as an opponent, directly referencing the game’s mechanics and further emphasizing the film’s playful approach and unwillingness to take itself too seriously.
The Street Fighter movie is set to premiere exclusively in theaters on October 16th.
