Ubisoft and Netflix Reveal Assassin's Creed Series Details: Set in Ancient Rome, Cast Announced
Ubisoft has officially announced that the upcoming live-action Assassin's Creed series from Netflix will be set in Ancient Rome, specifically in 64 AD. This information was shared on Ubisoft's official X account.
The choice of 64 AD is no coincidence, as it marks a pivotal moment for the Roman Empire, defined by the Great Fire of Rome. Emperor Nero, seeking to deflect suspicion for the fire, initiated the first major Roman persecution against Christians. This historical period also encompasses a failed assassination attempt on Nero, the Olympic Games, and his eventual downfall in 68 AD, which brought Rome to the brink of civil war. This rich historical backdrop promises fertile ground for the Assassin's Creed franchise's signature storytelling, with Nero undoubtedly playing a central role. While the franchise has previously visited Rome (in the game Assassin's Creed Brotherhood), that installment was set nearly 1000 years later.
In addition to the setting, Ubisoft also revealed the ensemble cast for the series. Leading roles will be played by Toby Wallace, Lola Petticrew, and Laura Marcus. The full cast list includes:
- Lola Petticrew
- Toby Wallace
- Laura Marcus
- Tanzyn Crawford
- Zachary Hart
- Nabhaan Rizwan
- Claes Bang
- Noomi Rapace
- Ramzy Bedia
- Sean Harris
- Corrado Invernizzi
- Sandra Guldberg Kampp
- Youseff Kerkour
- Mirren Mack
- Louis Mccartnery
The series, which was greenlit in 2025, is being produced by Roberto Pation and David Wiener. The director has not yet been named.
Filming for Netflix's Assassin's Creed series is currently underway in Italy. A release date or window has not yet been announced.
