System Shock Remake: Major Performance Update for Switch & Switch 2
Nightdive Studios has rolled out a significant performance update for its acclaimed System Shock remake. Dubbed "System Shock Parity Patch v2.1," this update delivers substantial enhancements, particularly for Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, ensuring a more stable and visually impressive experience across these platforms.
Owners of the original Nintendo Switch can now look forward to improved gameplay, with the game running at 900p when docked and 720p in handheld mode, supported by dynamic resolution scaling and a targeted 30 frames per second. For those with the Switch 2, the upgrades are even more pronounced, offering a crisp 1440p resolution at a smooth 60fps while docked, and 1080p at 60fps in handheld configuration. The Switch 2 also boasts full Joy-Con feature support, further immersing players.
Justin Khan, producer at Nightdive Studios, reflected on the journey, stating, “System Shock Version 2.1, the ‘Parity Patch,’ marks nearly ten years since the System Shock Remake project began. This patch represents countless lessons learned, the dedication of a small but determined team, and our commitment to refining the experience across every platform. Thank you for sticking with us through the ups and downs of that journey.”
System Shock plunges players into a chilling sci-fi horror narrative where a hacker protagonist must navigate the perilous Citadel Station. The mission: to escape the station's megalomaniac AI, SHODAN, who, freed from ethical constraints, seeks to destroy humanity and assert her godhood. Players will confront mutated creatures, solve intricate puzzles, and evade deadly traps in their desperate bid for survival.
The System Shock remake, already lauded for its faithful recreation, is now optimized to look and play even better for all players. The game is available for $39.99 across most platforms.
