iOS 27: Apple is Testing an Independent Siri App to Compete with Claude and ChatGPT
While we still await the full unveiling of the new Siri's functionalities, fresh rumors suggest a potential standalone app is in the works. Initially, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had reported that Apple would not develop an independent app. This seemed somewhat puzzling, as fully utilizing Siri without a dedicated interface would be challenging to envision. Here's how the situation is expected to evolve.
A Chatbot Similar to ChatGPT
Reports indicate that Apple is currently testing a standalone application designed to enable users to fully leverage Siri's capabilities. Its operation is expected to be very similar to ChatGPT and Claude, supporting both text and voice conversations. The app will feature a history of all previous chats, along with options to favorite conversations or search within them. The chat interface is said to resemble iMessage, utilizing classic text bubbles, and new conversations will begin with suggested prompts.
Furthermore, Siri's activation will include a new animation. Apple is also testing a version integrated into the Dynamic Island, featuring a glowing Siri icon and a 'Searching...' label while processing a request. Upon completion, a larger translucent panel will appear to display the results. There's also speculation about a potential 'Type to Siri' option within the iOS keyboard, in addition to an 'Ask Siri' button in the menus of other applications. Overall, users can anticipate an app experience highly similar to ChatGPT, without significant departures.
A Delayed Debut
It's worth noting that the new assistant's debut has faced several delays. These new functionalities are expected to arrive with iOS 27, and Apple is set to showcase these various innovations at the WWDC 2026 keynote scheduled for June. We can only await further updates, hoping they materialize sooner rather than later this time.
