Get ready to embrace your inner Dawnwalker! Rebel Wolves recently hosted their “Road to Launch” event stream for The Blood Of The Dawnwalker, offering an in-depth look at its open-world gameplay, narrative elements, and more.
The Blood Of The Dawnwalker, initially revealed in early 2025, marks the debut title from development studio Rebel Wolves. This studio was founded by former CD Projekt Red veterans, many of whom contributed to acclaimed titles like The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077.
The game unfolds in the fictional gothic realm of “Vale Sangora,” a medieval kingdom nestled within the Carpathian Mountains of Eastern Europe, boasting a rich and immersive cultural tapestry. Writer Piotr Kucharski emphasized the team’s dedication to crafting a world that feels both distinctive and believable, almost as if it could exist alongside our own.
Players step into the shoes of Coen, a farmer whose life is irrevocably altered when his village is annihilated and his family abducted by Brencis, a ruthless lord seeking to amass dark power through ritualistic sacrifice. Coen gains the extraordinary abilities of a Dawnwalker, transforming into a vampire by night while also acquiring arcane magic for use during the day.
A central aspect of the gameplay revolves around mastering Coen’s three distinct skill trees: Witchcraft, Swordmastery, and Vampirism. Swordmastery serves as a constant tool for survival against various adversaries throughout Coen’s journey. His more supernatural powers, however, become accessible as night and day shift.
Combat is designed to be dynamic, offering a wide array of options. Basic abilities include “Charge” for swift enemy engagement and “Broad Swing” to clear groups of foes. Special skills add further depth, such as “Burning Blood” to stagger enemies and inflict burning status, or “Voracious Bite” to ambush unsuspecting soldiers from the shadows and drain their life force.
The game’s day-night cycle is a notable feature, functioning less as a strict timer and more as a strategic resource. The main quest tasks Coen with gathering strength to rescue his family within 30 days, but players have complete autonomy over how they manage time’s progression. Any action that consumes time is clearly indicated in its description, eliminating hidden timers and allowing for exploration of Vale Sangora at your own pace.
Each day also introduces an “edict,” an official decree from Brencis’ regime that imposes specific effects on the game world. As players disrupt Brencis’ military operations and schemes, Coen accrues infamy, which directly influences the severity of these edict modifiers. The game offers numerous other immersive world interactions, such as the permanent closure of a blacksmith’s forge if the blacksmith meets an untimely end.
Players can also forge relationships with a cast of compelling NPCs, including the enigmatic healer Anca, the mysteriously potent Lacra, and the charismatic rebellion leader Marat. The player’s choices will shape these relationships, leading to alliances, betrayals, and even romances.
Several pre-order editions of The Blood Of The Dawnwalker are available. All pre-orders include the “Sangoran Wayfarer’s Armour Set” as a bonus, providing an early unlock for an armor set to aid Coen at the start of his quest. This set can also be obtained later in the game for those who miss the pre-order bonus. Each edition includes:
