NIS America has announced that the enhanced version, Ys X: Proud Nordics, is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC in the US early next year. This edition is described as the definitive experience, featuring an updated storyline, new gameplay mechanics, and an additional dungeon.
The `Proud Nordics` version already debuted on Switch 2 in Japan last month. The original Ys X: Nordics first appeared in Japan in 2023, followed by its Western release in 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Currently, there`s no information regarding potential upgrade paths for existing owners of Ys X: Nordics to the new `Proud Nordics` edition on Switch 2 or PC. It`s worth noting that Nintendo`s new console has seen both paid and free updates for games since its June release.
As is tradition, Ys X features Adol Christin, the series` recurring hero. This installment introduces a new companion, the sailor Karja. Together, they confront `the looming threat of an undying horde known as the Griegr,` as detailed in a press release. Players will join Adol and Karja aboard their ship, the Sandras, assembling a reliable crew to face the Griegr in an epic adventure.
Notably, Ys X is chronologically set after Ys II and marks the franchise`s debut of naval combat. Despite its place in the timeline, the game offers a self-contained narrative, making it accessible to newcomers. Beyond Switch 2, Ys X: Proud Nordics will be available on major PC platforms including Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
