Yoshi and the Mysterious Book: A True Successor to Yoshi’s Story

Nintendo unveiled a new Yoshi game for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled “Yoshi and the Mysterious Book,” during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct. This announcement was part of Mario`s 40th-anniversary celebration. The vibrant platformer is slated for release in Spring 2026, inviting players to join the beloved dinosaur on a fresh adventure within a storybook world.

The game`s trailer opens with a colossal, sentient book, known as Mr. E (short for `encyclopedia`), making an unexpected landing on Yoshi`s Island. A curious Yoshi then leaps into the book, eager to explore the diverse array of enigmatic creatures depicted within its pages, all documented in an unfamiliar language.

Soon after entering, Yoshi forms a bond with a unique flower-like creature that accompanies him on his back. The game`s visual presentation features a distinct 2D art style, evoking the charm of a hand-drawn children`s book. Character animations are intentionally stylized with a choppy, deliberate motion, reminiscent of the aesthetic seen in the “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” movies.

In “Yoshi and the Mysterious Book,” the primary goal appears to be gathering information about the various creatures and understanding their environmental interactions. The reveal trailer, for example, demonstrates Yoshi using dandelions to weaken a rock, making it vulnerable to his ground pound attack. Other activities teased in the trailer include fishing, surfing, and a darts-like mini-game.

The storybook theme of “Yoshi and the Mysterious Book” draws strong parallels to “Yoshi`s Story,” a title released on the Nintendo 64 back in 1997. The most recent main entry in the Yoshi series before this new announcement was “Yoshi`s Crafted World,” which launched on the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
