Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Price Hike Accompanied by Unannounced Perk Removal

Microsoft recently increased the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate by 50%. While this hike comes with new benefits such as an expanded game library, Fortnite Crew access, and improved cloud streaming, a previously available perk has been quietly discontinued.

Gaming news outlet CharlieIntel reported that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers no longer receive a 10% discount on Call of Duty Points or BlackCell bundles. This change, which seems to have been implemented recently, removes a significant advantage for loyal Call of Duty players who frequently purchase in-game content.

The community reaction to these Xbox Game Pass adjustments has been largely negative, with many users criticizing Microsoft`s perceived greed through various online expressions, including popular “Mr. Krabs” memes.

This price increase coincides with Microsoft`s decision to lay off thousands of employees, despite the company reporting a substantial $27.2 billion in profit over a three-month period. CEO Satya Nadella addressed these layoffs, noting that the “enigma of success” and the drive for profit can often lead to “messy” outcomes.

Microsoft recently achieved a historic milestone by briefly exceeding a $4 trillion market capitalization, making it only the second company, alongside Nvidia, to reach this valuation. Although its market cap has since slightly receded to approximately $3.8 trillion.

Separately, the multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is currently underway. Access is available to those who have pre-ordered the game, subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate, or obtain a beta code. The open beta phase is scheduled to commence on October 5th.
