Xbox Game Pass Could See Price Changes Under New CEO, Potential Netflix Partnership

The arrival of Asha Sharma as the new CEO of Xbox could lead to a reduction in Game Pass prices, a possibility reportedly under consideration by the division’s new leader.

While details remain scarce, a report by The Information suggests that Sharma aims to make ‘consoles and products like Game Pass more appealing to a wider range of users.’ This goal might be achieved by introducing ‘lower-priced tiers’ for the Microsoft subscription service, indicating a potential reorganization of its offerings.

Potential Collaborations with Netflix

This would represent a broader strategic review, building upon Microsoft’s recent Game Pass decisions, such as last year’s three-tier reorganization that included a notable price increase for the Ultimate tier.

Indeed, Microsoft has reportedly been considering the introduction of a lower-cost, ad-supported Game Pass tier for some time, though the practical implementation remains unclear.

The same report also highlights the potential for a partnership with Netflix. According to Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters, they are ‘tossing around some ideas’ with Sharma regarding possible joint initiatives.

Peters reportedly expressed strong conviction in Sharma’s approach, suggesting that this unique partnership between Netflix and Xbox could lead to interesting developments, such as potential bundles combining both services.

Meanwhile, under the new CEO’s leadership, Xbox has already hinted at its next-generation console, currently identified as Project Helix.
