Xbox Enhances Cross-Device Gaming with Smart New Features

Microsoft is introducing an array of new functionalities for Xbox, making it considerably easier for players to transition between gaming sessions across their various Xbox-enabled devices. A key highlight is the new `Play History` feature, designed to offer a seamless overview of all games played on any device within the Xbox ecosystem.

As outlined in a recent Xbox blog post, this update is initially rolling out to Xbox Insiders. Users will now find a `Jump Back in` list on their Xbox homescreen, which displays titles recently played on their current device. While similar functionality has traditionally been available on consoles for recent games and apps, its integration into the Xbox PC application marks a significant new step.

A notable addition for both console and PC users is the dedicated `Play History` button. Situated at the end of the `Jump Back in` section (or on the far right of the recently played list on consoles), this new category provides a comprehensive chronological record of every game played across all your Xbox devices. This will be especially beneficial for gamers who frequently switch between their console, PC, or Windows handheld, allowing for a much quicker return to any previously played game, regardless of the last device it was accessed on.

Furthermore, the latest Insider update for the Xbox PC app includes a convenient new filter option for `cloud playable` games. This feature simplifies the process of identifying and launching titles that can be streamed directly from the cloud, thereby eliminating the need for any local downloads.

For those eager to experience these and other new features ahead of general release, joining the Xbox Insider program is straightforward. Simply download the Xbox Insider app on your console or via the Microsoft Store on PC, and then opt into either the `Xbox Update Preview` or `PC Gaming preview,` depending on your preferred platform.

In the past year, Xbox has strongly emphasized its multi-device strategy, advocating through its marketing that Xbox is more than just a console and that any Windows device can serve as an `Xbox` gaming hub. This strategic direction was notably underscored by the earlier announcement of the ROG Ally, an Xbox-branded PC handheld slated for release later this year.

It is worth mentioning that Microsoft recently underwent a significant restructuring, which included substantial layoffs affecting approximately 9,000 employees, many of whom were part of Xbox studios. This unfortunately led to the cancellation of several game projects, including `Perfect Dark` and Rare`s `Everwild`.
