Warzone’s 2026 Update: Blackout-Inspired Experience & Avalon’s Return

Call of Duty: Warzone is preparing for a significant update in Spring 2026, promising a nostalgic return to its roots. This forthcoming “bold new experience” for the battle royale will draw extensive inspiration from Blackout, the beloved mode originally featured in Black Ops 4.

According to an official post from the Call of Duty social media account, the update in Spring 2026 will introduce a “bold new experience” directly inspired by the original Blackout, and notably, it will be set on the map Avalon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 holds the distinction of being the first Call of Duty title to incorporate a battle royale mode. Launched in 2017 amidst the genre`s booming popularity, Blackout challenged 100 players to drop onto an expansive map, engaging in intense combat until only one player or team remained standing.

The iconic Black Ops 4 battle royale map, Avalon, is confirmed to make a comeback. In its original form, Avalon boasted popular named locations such as Nuketown Island, alongside more generic areas like a train station and a construction site. While Avalon has seen various modifications over the years, the exact changes for its 2026 re-release remain unknown, meaning the return of all original locations is not guaranteed. Despite Avalon being generally well-regarded within the Warzone community, maps like Verdansk often receive more widespread acclaim.

In related news, Warzone is also slated to receive a new Resurgence map, Haven`s Hollow, which will debut alongside Black Ops 7. This new addition will be larger than Rebirth Island but smaller than Fortune`s Keep.

The open beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to commence this weekend, with official start times now publicly announced. During the beta period, players will have the chance to sample the Zombies mode and experience the impact of explosive body shields firsthand.
