Warner Bros Continues Its Push for Live Service Games Despite Recent Setbacks

Despite the ongoing challenges and frequent closures within the live service game industry, Warner Bros appears determined to continue its engagement with this often-risky market. A recent job posting at Warner Bros Games Montreal for an Executive Producer explicitly indicates a focus on live service titles. Key responsibilities for the role include overseeing “post-launch content and live service strategy,” along with requiring a “deep understanding of the full game development lifecycle, including live services.”

The job description also emphasizes the oversight of live operation processes, strongly suggesting that whatever WB Games Montreal is currently developing will feature significant live service elements. This direction might come as a surprise to some, especially in light of the company`s recent experiences.

This renewed commitment is particularly noteworthy given the substantial financial underperformance of last year`s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, a title that reportedly led to significant layoffs at developer Rocksteady. Furthermore, Warner Bros`s live service offering, MultiVersus, was previously delisted, becoming unplayable unless already installed by users. Beyond the live service sphere, the highly anticipated Wonder Woman game, developed by Monolith Studios, was canceled, leading to the unfortunate closure of that studio.

Earlier reports circulated this year suggesting that WB Games Montreal was working on a proposal for a new Game of Thrones title. However, no further details regarding the project`s progress or its current status have been released since then.
