Video Game Industry Set to Reach $300 Billion by 2029, Analysts Confirm

The global video game industry continues to show significant growth despite general economic challenges driven by cost-of-living pressures. A recent analysis from PwC highlights that video games already surpass the combined revenues of the music and film industries.

According to PwC`s forecast, the gaming industry is set to become a key growth driver within the broader entertainment and media sector in the coming years, serving as a “bright spot” amidst economic uncertainty.

PwC`s research indicates that the total revenue for the gaming industry, which reached $224 billion in 2024, could expand to nearly $300 billion by 2029. Unlike other digital entertainment platforms, such as streaming services, which are experiencing reduced consumer spending due to an overcrowded market, video games have proven more resilient to economic downturns.

Beyond PwC, other analytical firms also predict a prosperous future for video games. One report suggests that by 2028, the number of gamers will reach 4 billion people, accounting for approximately half of the world`s population. Nevertheless, some experts express concern regarding the industry`s short-term figures due to the delay of highly anticipated titles like GTA 6 until 2026, while also emphasizing the importance of major releases, including the Switch 2.
