Lazlow Jones, renowned for portraying the in-game radio host DJ Lazlow since Grand Theft Auto 3, has indicated his unlikelihood of appearing in GTA 6. This announcement is not unexpected, given Jones` departure from Rockstar Games in 2020. He is now working alongside Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, who also left the company in 2020, at their newly established firm, Absurd Ventures.
“We departed in 2020, so I doubt it,” Jones conveyed to Nerd Reactor regarding his potential involvement in GTA 6. He expressed his affection for collaborating with Dan Houser on those games, stating, “I was on the radio in GTA 3 and all the GTAs after that. It was an amazing journey working on GTA for 20 years.”
Beyond his prominent voice acting role, Jones also served as a producer, director, and writer for the GTA series over many years. Currently, at Absurd Ventures, he holds the titles of executive producer, writer, and director.
Jones remarked that Absurd Ventures embodies a “creative vibe and grit” that evokes the early days of Rockstar, with multiple diverse projects concurrently in development.
Absurd Ventures` ventures to date include “A Better Paradise,” an audio fiction series featuring Andrew Lincoln from “The Walking Dead,” and the comic series “American Caper.”
While Lazlow`s presence in GTA 6 remains uncertain, reports suggest that Rockstar has enlisted real-life music artists, including Drake and DJ Khaled, for the upcoming game.
In related news, another former Rockstar veteran, Leslie Benzies, recently released a new game titled MindsEye, which reportedly did not achieve a positive reception.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release in May 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is a possibility that parent publisher Take-Two may disclose further information about the game during their earnings briefing scheduled for August 7.
