The highly anticipated release of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is drawing near, despite its challenging development journey. However, as reported by Eurogamer, the launch comes with a specific detail: in addition to the four clans included in the base game, two more will be available for purchase separately on release day.
These two additional clans, Lasombra and Toreador, will be part of the “Shadows and Silk” add-on pack, priced at $22, with no other acquisition method provided. Eurogamer highlights that clan choice significantly impacts not only gameplay but also the difficulty level. Notably, the original Bloodlines featured seven clans upon its initial release.
During Gamescom, Rock Paper Shotgun discussed this decision with The Chinese Room developers. They explained that these clans were added beyond the initial scope and required extra development effort, sometimes at the request of publisher Paradox. Therefore, from their perspective, selling them separately is justified.
Narrative Director Ian Thomas elaborated that throughout the development, including numerous delays, “a huge amount of changes” were implemented, involving a substantial expansion of story content and features.
“We have been consistently expanding the game beyond our original intentions, and Paradox has been very supportive whenever we, our partners, or Paradox itself suggested, `We should add more here. Let`s push the date back.` As you know, the release date has been postponed, but this was done to enrich the game into something we believe will meet player expectations,” he added.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is scheduled for release on October 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
