A new report indicates that FromSoftware is actively developing a multiplatform game that has reached an “advanced stage of production.” This accelerated development suggests a potential release as early as next year.
MP1st, the source of this information, claims to have uncovered the game`s internal codename and reports that, barring any delays, the title is currently slated for a 2026 launch.
Beyond the codename, FMC, specific details about the game remain scarce. Nevertheless, MP1st suggests this internal identifier might hint at the nature of the upcoming project. Historically, codenames for games like Dark Souls and the recent Armored Core 6 included the letter `F`, whereas Elden Ring was internally known as GR. FromSoftware`s latest release, the multiplayer spin-off Elden Ring: Nightreign, carried the codename CL.
While the codename FMC offers limited insight, analysis suggests this new title is unlikely to be downloadable content (DLC) for an existing FromSoftware game, as the studio typically reuses base game codenames for expansions. Furthermore, given its reported multiplatform nature, it`s believed that FMC is not “The Duskbloods,” FromSoftware`s confirmed multiplayer-focused Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive set for release next year.
Considering the naming conventions of past FromSoftware titles, the Dark Souls and Armored Core franchises emerge as prime candidates for this mystery project. Although it could be an entirely new installment in either series, MP1st posits a significant possibility that it might be a remake or remastered version of Dark Souls 3.
FromSoftware has maintained a prolific development schedule. The studio launched Armored Core 6 in 2023, followed by the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion last year, and Elden Ring: Nightreign in May. Additionally, “The Duskbloods” was announced in April during a Nintendo Direct presentation focusing on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The prospect of another FromSoftware title arriving soon may alleviate concerns among fans, particularly given the studio`s recent ventures into multiplayer experiences. However, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and director of “The Duskbloods,” has reassured players that the studio is not abandoning single-player games and remains committed to developing titles that uphold their “more traditional style.”
