Ubisoft Launches Free Mobile Discovery Tour for Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Ubisoft has unveiled a new installment in its educational “Discovery Tour” series, this time as a complimentary mobile application. Titled “Discovery Tour: Medieval Baghdad,” this app draws inspiration from the 9th-century Baghdad setting of Assassin`s Creed Mirage and is readily available for download on both iOS and Android platforms.

Users can delve into “Discovery Tour: Medieval Baghdad” through two distinct modes: one prioritizing historical learning and another offering a more interactive, game-like experience. The “Access Codex” mode features comprehensive, encyclopedic information about the history, art, and cultural aspects of Baghdad during the Abbasid Empire, echoing the historical codex found within Assassin`s Creed Mirage. This mode is enhanced with augmented reality features, allowing for detailed examination and interaction with genuine historical artifacts.

The second, more engaging mode, “Explore Baghdad,” presents a guided, narrative adventure through the city, designed to be completed in approximately two hours. Participants can enjoy 360-degree exploration and partake in mini-games, all with the objective of gathering historical codex entries scattered across Baghdad.

Developed in partnership with the UK-based firm Sugar Creative, this mobile application also initially offered a web-based version for browser access, although it appeared to be offline at the time of reporting.

Ubisoft is renowned for its meticulous attention to historical detail in its game worlds. The Discovery Tour initiative serves as an innovative method to present this rich content educationally, thoughtfully removing the combat elements and intense narratives characteristic of the Assassin`s Creed series to put the spotlight squarely on historical context.

Preceding Discovery Tours, which covered periods like Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and the Viking Age, were typically adapted console and PC versions of their respective Assassin`s Creed games. Medieval Baghdad marks a significant shift as the first in the series to be released exclusively as a mobile application, a format well-suited to its educational and interactive entertainment approach.
