Ubisoft Confirms Greater Multiplayer Focus for Future Far Cry Titles

Ubisoft is reportedly making a significant push to integrate more multiplayer elements into the Far Cry series. Although a direct successor to Far Cry 6 has not been officially revealed, CEO Yves Guillemot recently confirmed that a key strategy is to enhance player engagement through expanded multiplayer offerings.

During the New Global Sport Conference in Saudi Arabia, Guillemot, according to a report by Game File (relayed through VGC), emphasized Ubisoft`s goal: “on Far Cry [is] really to bring the multiplayer aspects more predominantly pushed, so that it can also be played for a long time by players.” This statement highlights a strategic shift towards sustained player interaction in the popular franchise.

New Far Cry Projects on the Horizon

Reports earlier this year indicated that a multiplayer extraction game set in the Far Cry universe was restarted, with development resources subsequently redirected towards Far Cry 7. These two projects are thought to be distinct, with the extraction shooter being a separate, standalone experience. This rumored title is expected to feature an Alaskan setting, challenging players to endure a harsh environment while contending with wildlife, enemy soldiers, and other competing players.

A report from last year shed light on Ubisoft`s ambition to significantly reinvent the Far Cry franchise. Far Cry 7 is rumored to involve players rescuing their family from a cult, potentially under a unique real-world 24-hour time constraint for the mission, which would translate to three full in-game days to complete the objective.

Despite the recent closure of games such as XDefiant, Ubisoft remains steadfast in its commitment to heavily focusing on open-world and live-service game models across its portfolio, indicating a clear direction for its future releases.
