Twin Peaks: From Z To A Collection Discounted for Prime Big Deal Days

The comprehensive `Twin Peaks: From Z to A` collection is currently available at a reduced price of $49 (down from $70) on Amazon, preceding the Prime Big Deal Days event. This Paramount reissue, released earlier this year, encompasses all three seasons of the iconic surrealist series, the prequel film `Fire Walk with Me,` and over 20 hours of bonus content spread across 21 discs.

Enthusiasts can also pre-order `Fire Walk with Me` with its 4K restoration from The Criterion Collection for $35 (originally $50), set to be released on Tuesday, October 7, coinciding with the official commencement of Big Deal Days.

`Twin Peaks` holds a distinguished place as one of television`s most unforgettable series. Conceived by the visionary David Lynch, the show garnered significant acclaim both in its initial run in the early 1990s and during its celebrated revival for a third season by Showtime in 2017.

As previously noted, the `From Z to A` collection offers a complete package. It includes all 30 episodes from the initial two seasons, the 1992 prequel film, and the 2017 revival series comprising 18 episodes from Showtime. This compilation delivers a total of 48 episodes of outstanding television along with a remarkable feature film, all in one set.

Contents of Twin Peaks: From Z to A

  • Season 1 (1990) – 8 Episodes
  • Season 2 (1990-91) – 22 Episodes
  • Season 3 (2017) – 18 Episodes
  • Fire Walk with Me (1992) – Prequel movie

Additionally, a comprehensive array of special features is included, notably 4K versions of the original series` pilot episode and Episode 8 of `Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series`. Key highlights among these features are:

Key Special Features of Twin Peaks: From Z to A

  • The Missing Pieces: 90 minutes of deleted or alternate scenes from Fire Walk with Me.
  • Behind The Curtain: Exclusive making-of footage from Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series.
  • Complete recordings of all musical performances from the Roadhouse Bar.
  • Interviews with actors Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee.
  • `On the Couch with Kimmy and Harry` segment.
  • Pilot episode of the original series and Episode 8 of Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series in 4K resolution.
  • Various other special features previously released with Twin Peaks home video editions.

Altogether, this offers more than 20 hours of supplemental `Twin Peaks` material. It`s important to mention that the packaging of this current `Twin Peaks: From Z to A` reissue differs from the initial 2019 release. The new version comes in a plastic case, replacing the original`s premium fold-out box and omitting the collectible art prints. This change in packaging likely aims to streamline production, potentially ensuring the collection remains available for a longer period. While it may not possess the collector`s appeal of the first edition, it provides an economical option for enjoying the complete series on Blu-ray.

The 4K Blu-ray edition of Fire Walk with Me from Criterion Collection includes both 4K UHD and 1080p Blu-ray discs, with the film and all special features on both. The 4K digital restoration was supervised by David Lynch, and it features DTS TrueHD 7.1 Master Audio also supervised by him. Other special features include `The Missing Pieces` (90 minutes of deleted scenes assembled by David Lynch), interviews with actors Sheryl Lee, Ray Wise, and Grace Zabriskie, an interview with composer Angelo Badalamenti, trailers, English subtitles, and excerpts from the 1997 book Lynch on Lynch.

Criterion`s edition of Fire Walk with Me is a beautiful display piece and comes with an exclusive booklet of essays. While the on-disc content for special features largely mirrors that found in `From Z to A`, only this upcoming Criterion release will allow you to experience the movie in true 4K.

For those interested in the series without the prequel film, `Twin Peaks: The Television Collection` was released on Blu-ray in 2019. This 16-disc set includes the original 30-episode run and the 18-part Limited Event Series. While it lacks some special features found in `From Z to A` and does not include `Fire Walk with Me`, pairing it with a Criterion Collection edition of the movie makes this omission minor. The packaging of `The Television Collection` is generally considered more aesthetically pleasing than the repackaged `From Z to A`s oversized plastic case.

`Twin Peaks: The Television Collection` is also available on DVD as a 17-disc box set, matching the Blu-ray edition. Some fans might prefer watching the earlier seasons on a CRT TV for a nostalgic 480p experience, though this is not recommended for modern displays due to potential picture quality issues.

Finally, `Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series` (Season 3) also received a Blu-ray reprint in February. This 18-episode Showtime revival, often referred to as `The Return`, is available for around $21.55 with a limited-time coupon deal. It includes all Showtime episodes, various featurettes, a behind-the-scenes photo gallery, and a video of the Comic-Con panel for Season 3. If you already own `From Z to A` or `The Television Collection`, purchasing this separately is generally unnecessary as all 18 episodes are included in those sets. Unlike the Criterion Collection`s `Fire Walk with Me`, this standalone release does not offer any unique packaging, bonus inserts, or higher resolution content to justify a duplicate purchase.
