Kalypso Media officially announced Tropico 7 at Gamescom, confirming its release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Notably, the city-building title will also be available on Game Pass from day one. Scheduled for launch in 2026, this installment follows Tropico 6 by seven years.
In Tropico 7, players will once again assume the mantle of El Presidente, governing an island nation. New features in this sequel include terraforming capabilities, allowing players to reshape the landscape by, for example, making mountains disappear. A new political affiliation system will enable players to define their style of dictatorship, and council negotiations with various faction leaders will add depth to governance. The announcement trailer hints at the latter, showing El Presidente interacting with figures resembling a military leader and a hippie.
Gaming Minds Studio, an in-house developer at Kalypso known for the Rail Empire and Port Royale series, is taking over development for Tropico 7. The previous installment, Tropico 6, was developed by Limbic Entertainment, which was acquired by Bandai Namco several years prior.
In a press release, Daniel Dumont, Studio and Creative Director at Gaming Minds, stated, “With Tropico 7, we are opening a new chapter in city-building, politics, and economics, offering players unprecedented control and complexity while retaining the humor and satire fans adore.”
Tropico 7 joins a growing list of games confirmed for day-one Game Pass availability this week, including titles like High on Life 2, Moonlighter 2, and Denshattack. Additionally, Rogue Prince of Persia made a surprise debut on the subscription service today. For further information, details on other significant announcements and games from Gamescom Opening Night Live are available.
