The long-anticipated remake of “The Toxic Avenger,” once deemed unreleaseable, has finally arrived. After its successful theatrical run in 2025, praised for its extreme violence and unique style, the film is now slated for a home media release on October 28. Three distinct Blu-ray versions are currently available for pre-order.
Amazon is offering a substantial pre-order discount on “The Toxic Avenger Collector`s Edition Steelbook,” reducing its price to just $31 from an original $50. While a 4K edition with a lenticular sleeve is also available, it remains at full price. The standard Blu-ray edition is discounted to $25.85 (originally $38). It`s worth noting that the Steelbook Edition conveniently includes both 4K and 1080p Blu-ray discs.
The Toxic Avenger Collector`s Edition Steelbook (4K Blu-ray)
The Collector`s Edition Steelbook for “The Toxic Avenger Unrated” showcases Toxie`s mutated visage, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, on the front, with a dynamic full-body image of the mop-wielding vigilante on the back. Inside, promotional stills of the film`s antagonists, Bob and Fritz Garbinger (played by Kevin Bacon and Elijah Wood), are included. This edition contains both 4K and standard Blu-ray versions of the movie.
Bonus features comprise:
- A Toxic Environment: Best of behind the scenes
- Director`s commentary with Macon Blair
- Toxic Shock with Tiffany Shepsis
- 40th Anniversary of the Toxic Avenger retrospective

The Toxic Avenger Collector`s Edition (4K Blu-ray)
The non-steelbook Collector`s Edition of “The Toxic Avenger” features a limited-edition lenticular O-card sleeve, displaying Dinklage`s character transitioning between human and mutated forms. Beneath the sleeve, the cover art depicts Toxie ready for action with his signature mop. Beyond the unique packaging, this 4K edition is identical to the Steelbook, including a standard 1080p Blu-ray and the same array of special features. However, unlike the Steelbook, this version is not currently discounted, making it notably more expensive.
The Toxic Avenger (Standard Blu-ray)
The standard 1080p Blu-ray edition, also marketed as a Collector`s Edition, features reversible cover art as its unique collectible element. One side presents Toxie in an “Uncle Sam” recruitment pose, while the alternate art mirrors that of the 4K edition. This standard Blu-ray also includes the full suite of bonus features. A DVD release of “The Toxic Avenger” is also available for pre-order at $30.
The new “Toxic Avenger” film, a remake of Troma Entertainment`s 1984 cult classic, endured a period of uncertainty for several years. Following limited film festival premieres in 2023, its broader release was problematic, with distributors hesitant due to its graphic content and anticipated niche appeal, leading one anonymous producer to label it “unreleaseable.”
Thankfully, other companies intervened, allowing “The Toxic Avenger” to reach cinemas. For those unfamiliar with the trailers, the film reinterprets the 1984 original, with Peter Dinklage starring as Winston Gooze. Gooze, a health club janitor suffering from a terminal illness caused by his employer, is transformed into a vengeful mutant vigilante after being thrown into toxic waste. He then embarks on a mission to violently cleanse his town.
The cast also includes JJ Doherty, Jacob Tremblay, Sarah Niles, and Johnny Coyne, alongside Dinklage, Bacon, and Wood. True to the original`s spirit, this adaptation embraces extreme gore, humor, and a rebellious punk-rock sensibility. It promises a blend of brutal action and laughter for viewers seeking such entertainment.
The Enduring Appeal of the Original Toxic Avenger

Despite being over four decades old, the original “Toxic Avenger” remains a compelling watch. The complete collection, including the first film and its sequels, is available in a 4K set for $94.89. While subsequent films saw a decline in quality, the inaugural movie stands as a splatterpunk masterpiece, celebrated for its low-budget appeal and crude humor. Often described as “so bad it`s good,” it swiftly achieved cult classic status upon its release. This “Toxset” boasts restored 4K scans of all four movies, alongside their standard Blu-ray counterparts.
A standard Blu-ray collection of “The Toxic Avenger” is also available, priced at $28.57, down from its original $50.
The original collection comes packed with extensive bonus materials. The first film features behind-the-scenes content, an introduction by Troma Entertainment president Lloyd Kaufman, and archival footage from the DVD release. The first sequel expands with additional documentaries, commentary tracks, and interviews. The third film provides a similar array of extras. “Citizen Toxie,” the fourth movie, includes a standout two-hour-plus documentary offering an unvarnished look at its production, acclaimed for its comprehensive and candid coverage, despite the film itself remaining a divisive entry among fans.
The Toxic Avenger`s Animated Legacy: Toxic Crusaders

To complete the “Toxic Avenger” universe, the animated spin-off, “Toxic Crusaders: The Series,” is available for under $20. This 1990s series, initially a marketing tool for action figures, includes all 13 original episodes on Blu-ray. It also features a new introduction by Lloyd Kaufman, classic toy commercials and TV spots, previously thought-lost archival footage, and additional cartoons. An exclusive bonus is a documentary detailing the creation of the “Toxic Crusaders” video game by Retroware.
Released last December, the “Toxic Crusaders” Blu-ray is currently available at one of its lowest prices, $19.84.
