The recent Primetime Emmy Awards celebrated television`s finest, yet HBO`s The Last of Us Season 2 did not secure any wins at the main ceremony. Despite receiving nominations for prestigious categories such as Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series, and Best Actress in a Drama Series, the series found itself overlooked. While it did achieve an award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a One-Hour Comedy or Drama Series at the untelevised Creative Arts Emmys the prior week, this success was overshadowed by its performance at the televised Primetime event.
Historically, The Last of Us made waves as the first live-action video game adaptation to garner multiple Primetime Emmy nominations, previously earning eight Emmys from 24 nods, notably including Nick Offerman`s win for Outstanding Guest Actor. However, this year proved different, with the series failing to win a single award. Other productions saw significant success: The Studio secured four Emmys, The Pitt claimed three, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was recognized as the best talk series, despite its recent cancellation. Furthermore, Cristin Milioti of The Penguin was awarded best actress in a limited or anthology series or movie, and Dan Gilroy received the Emmy for best writing in a drama series for his work on Star Wars: Andor.
It`s worth noting that The Last of Us Season 2 did not receive nominations for writing or directing categories. Nevertheless, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann commended the series` cast and crew following the initial nomination announcements. Looking ahead, a third season of The Last of Us has been confirmed and is currently in development, slated to center on the character Abby upon its release.
