For the upcoming Skate game from EA, the most crucial element, surprisingly, isn`t refined gameplay or engaging settings. Instead, it`s the soundtrack that takes precedence. Within this musical selection, a key query arises: how much of the playlist will be dedicated to ska, often considered the ideal genre for executing a perfect kickflip? The developers of Skate are not yet prepared to disclose the exact amount of ska, though they are actively promoting the game`s imminent release on PC and consoles.
Senior creative director Deran Chung shared his perspective with an interviewer, stating, “I recognize ska is quite divisive. I personally enjoy both Ska and Rocksteady (another genre of music). Therefore, I`m unsure how to provide a definitive answer. My mathematical skills are also lacking, so I`ll say it won`t constitute a large portion, but I won`t completely exclude its presence on the soundtrack.” Jeff Seamster, Skate`s head of creative, confirmed that the game will indeed feature “some” ska, which could prompt fans to retrieve their vintage Mighty Mighty Bosstones apparel and Reel Big Fish albums.
Naturally, players can curate their desired ska experience during gameplay by utilizing integrated streaming services on both console and PC. Simply queuing up a playlist with bands like Fishbone and Madness on platforms like Spotify will suffice.
Following several years of development, the new Skate title is set to enter early access on September 16 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This latest iteration of the franchise is a free-to-play, live-service offering from Full Circle, a studio comprising seasoned series developers including Deran Chung and Chris `Cuz` Parry. The game, situated in the fictitious city of San Vansterdam, aims to build a strong player community for Skate`s future.
