A notable distinction between the two versions is the level of violence: the director`s cut, while only marginally longer, incorporates additional violent scenes that resulted in an R-rating, unlike the PG-13 theatrical release. The film, based on the popular comic, follows Al Simmons, an elite black ops soldier who is brutally murdered by his superior, Jason Wynn (portrayed by Martin Sheen).
