Switch 2 Update Is Out Now, Here’s What It Fixes And Improves

The new update for Nintendo Switch 2 is now available. Version 20.2.0, released on July 14, 2025, addresses several issues and introduces improvements to the console`s performance and functionality.

Key Fixes and Enhancements

Among the crucial fixes is the resolution of a problem where parental control settings might not have transferred correctly from a Nintendo Switch 1 console to a Nintendo Switch 2 during a system migration. Additionally, an internet connectivity issue that prevented users from moving past the “Searching for networks” screen has also been resolved, ensuring smoother online access.

Beyond these specific fixes, the update also includes general system stability improvements. While Nintendo has not provided detailed information about these general enhancements, they aim to improve the overall user experience.

Backward Compatibility Improvements

Datamining expert Oatmealdome has reported that the update also brings significant improvements to backward compatibility with Nintendo Switch 1 games. Specifically, the popular title Portal 2 is now expected to run more efficiently and smoothly on the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

Update History and Upcoming Releases

This marks the third update for the Nintendo Switch 2 since its launch in early June. The console received a day-one update introducing various features, followed by another stability-focused update on June 18. This latest update arrives just days before Nintendo`s next major game, Donkey Kong Bananza, is set to release on July 17.

In related news, the PS5 also recently received a minor update. Meanwhile, Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting an announcement regarding the next Nintendo Direct presentation, though no official statements have been made yet.
