The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 has been exceptionally strong. According to Circana, the hybrid console`s debut in June drove total US hardware expenditure to an unprecedented $978 million, far surpassing the prior June record of $608 million, which was set 17 years ago in 2008.
Mat Piscatella, Circana`s executive director, noted that the Switch 2 achieved the highest first-month sales for any system in US history. The new Nintendo console, launched on June 5, reportedly sold 1.6 million units last month. This significantly outperforms the PlayStation 4, which previously held the record with 1.1 million units sold in its November 2013 launch. It`s particularly impressive that the Switch 2 accomplished this outside the traditional holiday shopping season, which typically sees the highest video game spending in November and December.
Nintendo has not yet provided updated global sales figures since its initial announcement that the Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units within its first four days. Furthermore, Japanese publication Famitsu recently reported that the Switch 2 also set a new first-month hardware sales record in Japan, moving more than 1.5 million units and surpassing the Game Boy Advance`s long-standing record of nearly 25 years.
Looking ahead, Nintendo aims to maintain this impressive sales momentum. The company recently unveiled a $500 holiday bundle for the Switch 2, which includes the highly anticipated game Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
