Nintendo`s new Switch 2 console has achieved significant initial sales, marking it as one of the most successful console launches ever. A standout detail from these figures is the unexpectedly strong sales of its premium Pro Controller. Approximately one-third of early Switch 2 buyers also purchased this $85 accessory.
Industry analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana highlighted this trend, stating that the Switch 2 Pro Controller had a 32% “attach rate” in its launch month, meaning nearly one in three console purchasers also bought the $85 controller. Furthermore, Piscatella noted that the Pro Controller was the top-selling accessory by revenue in June.
According to Game File, around 512,000 Pro Controllers were sold in the US during the Switch 2`s debut month. This figure is substantial, especially since the high-end controller isn`t essential for gameplay, nor are new games exclusive to it, and even the original Switch Pro Controller is compatible. It`s also worth mentioning that the Pro Controller`s price increased by $5 post-announcement, possibly due to import tariff concerns.
While early adopters are typically more inclined to buy extra accessories, suggesting this high attach rate might not last, the current sales performance for the new console`s Pro Controller remains remarkably strong.
In an interview with IGN, Piscatella cautioned that initial sales often indicate supply levels rather than predicting a console`s long-term success. Nevertheless, he still praised the Switch 2`s launch month figures as a “helluva good start” toward sustained market presence.
