Almost 25 years after its initial launch on the Nintendo GameCube, Super Smash Bros. Melee remains a powerhouse in the platform fighting genre, especially within its vibrant modding community. Recently, a modder named Mooshies introduced one of gaming`s newest breakout stars to the arena: Jimbo from Balatro.
This joyful jester`s incarnation in Super Smash Bros. Melee is a visual overhaul of Mr. Game & Watch, retaining all his original movements and combat styles. However, Mooshies` creation uniquely swaps Mr. G&W`s traditional weapons and sound effects for the iconic cards, imagery, and audio cues directly from the highly acclaimed 2024 roguelike, Balatro.

Mooshies unveiled a short gameplay trailer showcasing Jimbo in action, demonstrating his imaginative use of Balatro`s recognizable jokers and card packs in fierce battles against characters like Falco and Marth. Initially released as a premium mod, Melee enthusiasts can now access Jimbo on Mooshies` Patreon page.
Smash Bros. Content and Creator`s Next Project
The Super Smash Bros. franchise hasn`t seen new official content across its entire series since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate`s final update in 2021, which concluded with Sora from Kingdom Hearts joining the roster as the last downloadable fighter in SSBU`s Fighter Pack 2. Other notable DLC additions to Smash Bros. Ultimate included Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Steve and Alex from Minecraft, and Kazuya from Tekken.
While the Super Smash Bros. series may be in a quiet period, its revered creator, Masahiro Sakurai, is far from inactive. His upcoming title, Kirby Air Riders, is set to launch on November 20 for the Nintendo Switch 2, having been the central focus of a 45-minute Nintendo Direct broadcast earlier this month.
