During a recent Nintendo Direct livestream, an exciting announcement was made: both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are slated for release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Fans can look forward to acquiring these iconic titles either as a comprehensive bundle for $70 or individually for $40 each, with the official launch date set for October 2.
This highly anticipated return is a key component of the ongoing Super Mario 40th Anniversary celebration. The festivities extend beyond gaming, as the newly titled Super Mario Galaxy Movie was also teased during the event, just prior to the game announcements. This cinematic adaptation is scheduled to premiere in theaters in April 2026.
The Nintendo Direct was packed with other thrilling revelations for Mario enthusiasts. Among these were the announcements for Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park and Mario Tennis Fever. Furthermore, completing the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary segment, a brand-new adventure starring Mario`s faithful companion, Yoshi, titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, was unveiled.
Super Mario Galaxy originally enchanted players on the Nintendo Wii in 2007, quickly followed by its critically acclaimed sequel in 2010. While the first Super Mario Galaxy saw a re-release as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars bundle for the 35th anniversary in 2020, this upcoming launch marks the very first re-release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 since its initial debut over a decade ago, making it a particularly special event for fans.
Beyond the Mario universe, the Nintendo Direct also provided crucial updates on other major titles. The Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been given a release date of January 22, and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Hades 2 is set to launch on September 25.
