Nintendo fans can now preorder the highly anticipated Super Mario Galaxy collection, which brings beloved titles to the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. This bundle, featuring both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, is priced at $70 and is set to launch on October 2. Both physical and digital editions will be available. Nintendo initially announced these enhanced versions of the classic Wii games during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation.
While the original Super Mario Galaxy was previously included in the limited-run Super Mario 3D All-Stars Collection (which is no longer in production or sold on the eShop), this marks the exciting debut of Super Mario Galaxy 2 on modern Nintendo hardware. Purchasing the collection offers a cost-effective solution compared to buying each game individually for $40 via the eShop.
Players using the new Switch 2 console will receive a complimentary performance upgrade upon the collection`s launch, promising an even more refined gameplay experience. When docked, the games are projected to run at 1080p resolution on the original Switch and an impressive 4K resolution on Switch 2. The collection provides versatile control options, allowing users to choose between traditional button and stick controls or to immerse themselves in the original Wii motion controls. Additionally, an Assist Mode has been incorporated, making these engaging platformers more accessible for newcomers and younger players.
Beyond the game releases, Nintendo is expanding the lore of Rosalina`s Storybook with new chapters. Fans will also have the opportunity to acquire a physical hardcover edition of the original Storybook (excluding the new additions) for $25, slated for release on November 25. This richly illustrated book is published by Dark Horse.
The launch of this collection is part of Super Mario`s 40th Anniversary celebrations and aims to introduce these iconic games to a broader audience before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premieres in theaters next April. To complement these festivities, Nintendo will also release two new Amiibo figures, featuring Mario and Rosalina (accompanied by Luma). These Amiibo will not be available at the collection`s launch but are scheduled to arrive in stores on April 2, 2026, aligning with the movie`s release month. Although final pricing is yet to be confirmed, each figure is expected to retail for approximately $30.
