1047 Games, the studio behind the popular arena shooter Splitgate, has revealed that it has begun development on a new multiplayer shooter. This upcoming project marks a new direction for the studio, drawing inspiration from acclaimed titles such as Titanfall 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
The announcement came from CEO Ian Proulx, who clarified that while Splitgate: Arena Reloaded will remain the studio’s primary focus for the foreseeable future, a dedicated portion of the team has started working on this new venture. Proulx stated that this move aligns with the studio’s long-term aspiration to develop multiple games concurrently. Sign-ups for early playtests of this new “movement shooter” are now open for fans of the mentioned genres.
Proulx expressed excitement for the new project, while reaffirming the studio’s deep affection for Splitgate and its inspirations, such as Halo and Portal. This new title aims to achieve greater stability and success, contrasting with Splitgate’s somewhat turbulent history. The Splitgate series found initial success with its first installment in 2019, followed by a significant surge in 2021 that attracted millions of players but also led to substantial technical challenges. An attempt to develop Splitgate 2 proved overly complex, resulting in the release of Arena Reloaded, which modernized the experience but has struggled to capture a broad audience. With this new game, 1047 Games hopes to forge a more stable and prosperous path.
