Hazelight Studios` cooperative sci-fi/fantasy adventure, Split Fiction, a major success this year with over 4 million units sold since its March 2025 launch, has achieved a unique distinction in its native Sweden. It marks the first video game to ever be presented with the prestigious Excellent Swedish Design award.
The studio announced this prestigious achievement via its social media platforms, sharing an image of Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight and director of Split Fiction, receiving the accolade from Prince Carl Philip of Sweden.
This collaborative game immerses players in the journey of two aspiring authors, Mio Hudson (portrayed by Kaja Chan) and Zoe Foster (portrayed by Elsie Bennett), who become ensnared within a digital rendition of their own narratives. They must unite as their imaginative realms begin to merge. Split Fiction succeeds Hazelight Studios` prior highly acclaimed co-op title, It Takes Two, which achieved sales of 23 million copies.
Furthermore, a film adaptation of Split Fiction is reportedly in the works, with John M. Chu, known for directing Wicked, a potential candidate to direct. Actress Sydney Sweeney is slated to star, and the screenplay is being developed by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the writers behind Deadpool, who joined the project in June. Despite this progress, Fares has voiced reservations about the movie`s ultimate realization, though the project seemingly retains significant momentum.
The game Split Fiction is accessible across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
