A sequel to the 2006 stealth-action game Sneak King is probably never going to materialize, largely because its central figure, the Burger King mascot, was considered too unsettling. This news might come as a disappointment to dedicated fans, such as Redditor JR_Masterson, who have hoped for a follow-up for years.
In an interview with Restaurant Business, as reported by IGN, Joel Yashinsky, Burger King`s chief marketing officer, explained the brand`s pivot. He stated that the “Creepy King” had to be phased out to maintain profitability, especially given that rivals like McDonald`s were succeeding with more family-friendly mascots.
“We learned a lot from the `Creepy King` era,” Yashinsky commented. “And we`ve moved beyond him because his appeal was quite limited.”
For those who recall Sneak King – or the “Creepy King” mascot used by Burger King from 2004 to 2011 – the game put players in the role of The King, tasking them with discreetly delivering various meals to unsuspecting, hungry individuals. It was one of three promotional titles collectively known as “The Burger King Games,” which also included the bumper car simulation Big Bumpin` and the racing game PocketBike Racer.
Despite its unconventional nature, Sneak King developed a unique cult following, with players like JR_Masterson expressing a desire for a sequel for over 18 years. However, this long wait is likely in vain, as Burger King is reportedly committed to distancing itself from this “frightening mascot” period, according to Restaurant Business.
