While EA`s recently launched free-to-play Skate game is now available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, a version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is not currently planned. Nevertheless, Nintendo`s upcoming hybrid console will soon welcome another exciting skateboarding title to its growing library.
Introducing Skate Story, an independent game developed by Sam Eng and published by Devolver Digital, confirmed for release on the Switch 2 later this year. This title stands out with its distinctive art style and an imaginative narrative. Players take on the role of a demon residing in the underworld, whose physical form is described as being composed of “glass and pain.” Entrusted with a skateboard by the devil himself, the demon`s ultimate goal is to journey to the Moon, consume it, and by doing so, achieve escape from the depths of hell.
The game`s intriguing description encourages players to: “Ollie, kickflip, and grind your way through the ash and smoke of The Emptylands as you take on a seemingly impossible quest. Learn to master your weight and motion to conquer the weeping concrete. Savor the ritualistic beauty as you set your feet to pop a perfect kickflip.”
First announced earlier this year, Skate Story is also scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. As of now, an Xbox version has not been announced.
Skate Story is set to enhance the selection of skateboarding games already available on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. This lineup includes fan favorites such as Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 1+2, alongside other notable titles like Skate Bird, Skater XL, Session, and OlliOlli World.
In related news, EA`s Skate appears to be enjoying a successful launch, with reports indicating that two million players engaged with the game within its initial 24 hours. The game is currently accessible in an early access phase, which is projected to continue for approximately one year.
