After a remarkable decade of operation, CyGames has officially announced that its popular digital collectible card game, Shadowverse, will be permanently deactivated on June 30th. However, its successor, Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, is set to continue its run.
Considering the volatile nature of the video game market, Shadowverse’s longevity has been impressive. The digital card game from CyGames successfully maintained an active community for ten years and already has a successor firmly in place.
Given these circumstances, the retirement of the original game is understandable. Shadowverse’s deactivation on June 30th will follow a precise, multi-stage program leading to its complete disconnection.
Steps Towards Deactivation
CyGames has outlined a clear timeline for the closure of Shadowverse: As of March 25th, the sale of in-game crystals has been halted (though existing crystals can still be used). On March 31st, card rotations will reset, and Season 23 will begin as planned.
With the discontinuation of crystal sales, all players will automatically receive the Premium Pass, and various bundles will be removed from the store. Further card rotations are scheduled for April 30th and May 31st, before the game’s final shutdown on June 30th.
CyGames also stated that additional information regarding any unused crystals will be released, potentially including options for transferring them to other titles within the series.
Meanwhile, Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is already actively serving as the successor, effectively carrying forward the card game legacy and poised to fully take the baton from its predecessor. It has reportedly been functional in this capacity for nearly a year, ensuring a seamless transition for players.
