Score Deals on Lego Optimus Prime and Other Iconic Sets!

The Lego Icons Optimus Prime model is highly celebrated among collectors for its ingenious 2-in-1 design. This 1,508-piece set allows fans to transform the iconic Autobot leader into his classic truck form. While this popular set has been restocked by several major retailers at a 20% discount, bringing its price down to $144 (originally $180), it`s currently only available at Target, having sold out at Amazon and Walmart.

It`s an opportune moment to expand your Lego collection, especially with the Transformers series soon welcoming its third member: Soundwave. The formidable Decepticon is set to join the Lego Icons: Transformers lineup on August 4th. Lego Insiders, however, can acquire this 1,505-piece display model for $190 starting August 1st.

Returning to the Autobot commander, the Optimus Prime Lego set has repeatedly sold out at all three major retailers this year. Notably, it was out of stock everywhere from last holiday season until March. While the Lego Store currently has units available, they are sold at the full MSRP of $180.

Optimus Prime is a remarkably detailed replica of the G1-era Autobot leader. With 19 points of articulation, you can pose him dynamically in robot mode. Essentially, this 13.5-inch Lego scale-model of G1 Optimus Prime functions like an action figure, boasting more movable components than typical Lego sets thanks to its convertible design.

Transitioning between robot and truck modes is quite intuitive. Initially, it might take a few minutes, but with practice, you can complete the transformation in under a minute.

Beyond its full transformation capability, Optimus comes with a range of interactive features and accessories, making it one of the most engaging builds in Lego`s adult collectible lineup. It includes brick-built replicas of the ion blaster and Energon axe, which can be attached to his hands. His jetpack can be easily fastened or removed, and you can swap between two different waist panels. The dual windows on his chest open to reveal the Matrix of Leadership artifact. The set also features an Energon cube and a display plaque.

Given Lego`s extensive range of vehicle display models, it`s impressive how good Optimus Prime`s secondary truck mode looks—so much so that it could be mistaken for a non-transforming vehicle. In truck form, Optimus measures 10.5 x 4.5 x 5.5 inches.

Similar to many Lego sets designed for adults and collectors, Optimus Prime offers a more intricate building experience than average sets. A diverse array of conventional bricks and unique pieces makes the construction process highly rewarding. Depending on your experience with Lego sets of this scale, completing it could take anywhere from three to six hours.

Meet Soundwave: The New Decepticon Lego Model

The latest Transformers Lego set introduces the Decepticons to the brick-built universe. Soundwave is a 1,505-piece, 13-inch display model, making it similar in size and piece count to Optimus Prime.

Like the other two Transformers builds, Soundwave`s design is based on his G1 era appearance. Uniquely, this 2-in-1 build converts into a boombox and even features sound effects and dialogue activated by pressing a play button.

Another distinctive element is the inclusion of buildable figures for Ravage and Laserbeak. Both smaller figures also transform into cassettes that can be stored inside Soundwave`s cassette deck. The set comes with a brick-built information plaque detailing Soundwave`s technical specifications and a miniature cassette tape for display.

Soundwave will be a Lego Store exclusive upon launch, but like Optimus, it`s expected to become available at major retailers in the coming months. Lego Insiders can purchase Soundwave for $190 starting August 1st, three days before its official August 4th release.

Other Hot Lego Deals for Collectors

Beyond Transformers, other major retailers are offering excellent deals on iconic movie vehicles. The Lego Icons Back to the Future Time Machine is available at Walmart for $170 (down from $200). This is a 3-in-1 build, allowing you to choose which DeLorean model from the trilogy to construct. You can later partially disassemble and rebuild it into another version using the instructions. Target also offers the set for $171, though Amazon`s $170 deal is sold out.

Dune enthusiasts can currently save 20% on the Lego Icons: Atreides Royal Ornithopter, reducing its price from $165 to $132. This 1,369-piece set includes six Lego minifigures. While Amazon is nearly out of stock, this deal is also available at Walmart and Target.
