During the recent State of Play event, developer Housemarque provided an in-depth look at their upcoming title, Saros. Following an earlier cinematic teaser from PlayStation`s February State of Play, this new trailer officially confirmed the game`s global release date as March 20, 2026. Crucially, it also offered players their first glimpse of actual gameplay, demonstrating how protagonist Arjun Devraj, voiced by actor Rahul Kohli (known for his role in Midnight Mass), masterfully leverages each death as a critical learning opportunity to enhance his abilities and grow stronger.
Saros is presented as a spiritual successor to Housemarque`s critically acclaimed roguelite, Returnal. Much like its predecessor, this action-packed adventure unfolds on the enigmatic planet Carcosa, a hostile world teeming with a diverse array of creatures determined to impede Devraj`s crucial investigation. Trapped under the ominous influence of a perpetual eclipse, Devraj must contend with relentless, nightmarish adversaries relentlessly pursuing his demise. While these foes appear frequently successful in their attempts, death in Saros is explicitly not the ultimate end for Devraj.
A significant divergence from Returnal is the introduction of permanent resources and persistent progression. Housemarque has stated that players will possess the ability to continuously choose and permanently upgrade their loadout and suit enhancements. This evolving system allows for strategic choices and lasting improvements, designed to help overcome the formidable and deadly challenges presented on Carcosa, offering a more forgiving yet still demanding experience for players.
Saros is slated for release exclusively on PlayStation 5 on March 20, 2026.
