After more than a decade-long absence from video games, Sam Fisher is set to make his highly anticipated comeback. Netflix has just released a new trailer for “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” an animated series that will send Sam on another thrilling mission. Fans can mark their calendars for the premiere on October 14.
While Michael Ironside famously voiced Fisher in most of the Splinter Cell games, the leading role in this animated series will now be filled by Liev Schreiber. The trailer doesn`t dive deep into specific plot details but provides ample glimpses of Sam in action, taking down adversaries and making an impact. A significant moment highlighted in the trailer is a focus on the grave of Douglas Shetland, one of Sam`s close friends whom he was compelled to kill when he went rogue. This narrative hint suggests that the animated series` story will align with events from the Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory era of the game franchise.
The confirmed cast members for the series include Janet Varney as Anna `Grim` Grímsdóttir, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Zinnia McKenna, and Joel Oulette as Thunder. The series boasts impressive creative talent, with Derek Kolstad, co-creator of “John Wick,” serving as the head writer and producer for “Deathwatch.” Animation for the series was brought to life by Sun Creature Studio and Fost.
This animated series may currently be the primary new “Splinter Cell” adaptation on the horizon. A live-action movie adaptation, which had been in development for several years, was ultimately canceled last year. The most recent adaptation before “Deathwatch” was a BBC Radio play titled “Splinter Cell: Firewall,” featuring Andonis Anthony as Fisher.
For fans eagerly awaiting a new game, Ubisoft announced a “Splinter Cell” remake in 2022, though a release date has not yet been specified. In related news, the publisher recently added Steam achievements to “Splinter Cell: Blacklist,” a title originally released back in 2013.
