S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to receive its highly anticipated first major story expansion, which will be available across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PC, and PlayStation 5.
Dubbed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, this non-linear downloadable content (DLC) promises to add dozens of hours of compelling gameplay for devoted fans. The expansion’s narrative revolves around a heated conflict between two prominent factions within the Zone: Duty, one of the oldest groups, believes the Zone must be contained and ultimately destroyed, while Freedom, their ideological counterpart, sees the Zone as a unique gift that can be leveraged for humanity’s greater good. A previously held agreement between these two powerful entities appears to have crumbled, sparking fresh hostilities.
Players will once again assume the role of Skif, the main character from the base game. The events of the Cost of Hope DLC run concurrently with the main story; upon successful installation of the expansion, a new signal will appear on Skif’s PDA, guiding players towards the freshly added content.
This new content introduces two distinct and perilous regions awaiting exploration. The first is the iconic and infamous Chornobyl Nuclear Reactor itself – a site abandoned and sealed for decades, yet now mysteriously drawing stalkers into its borders. The second region is the Iron Forest, a sprawling area featuring uncharted territories and intricate, labyrinthine paths. Each of these newly introduced areas comes complete with its own central hub, unique activities, challenging quests, and an array of brand-new weapons and gear designed to help players combat the Zone’s myriad anomalies.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 expansions are slated for release in installments, with Cost of Hope positioned as the pivotal middle chapter of what developers are calling the “second trilogy.” This, in conjunction with an unrevealed future story DLC, is intended to forge a significant new narrative arc within the sprawling S.T.A.L.K.E.R. saga.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope is scheduled for release this summer.
