Roblox Introduces TikTok-Style Videos & Advanced AI Creator Tools

Roblox recently introduced “Roblox Moments,” a new TikTok-like video feed for in-game content sharing. This announcement, made at the Roblox Developers Conference, also highlighted their ongoing development of various AI tools designed to support game creators.

Currently in beta, Roblox Moments offers short, vertical videos, up to 30 seconds long, mirroring the popular formats of TikTok and Instagram Reels. Uniquely, these videos are captured directly within Roblox`s user-created “experiences” (games and apps). The feed allows users to instantly jump into any featured experience shown in a video.

Roblox is significantly investing in AI development tools for its creators, aiming to automate aspects of game development for independent developers and small teams. The company is developing 400 AI models, encompassing asset generation, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and auto-translation. A standout AI product demonstrated was “4D Objects,” designed to fully automate the creation of interactive, scripted assets from simple text prompts.

Emphasizing its goal to connect a billion users, Roblox stated that widespread creation is crucial, noting that most of its popular games are developed by teams of fewer than ten people. Other AI tools, such as text-to-speech, are being developed to further assist smaller creators, potentially replacing human voice actors for NPC dialogue within experiences.

Recently, Roblox has faced scrutiny from lawmakers regarding its user protection measures, particularly for its largely young audience. In response, the platform has enhanced its safety features, including implementing age verification for all voice chat users.

Despite these challenges, Roblox continues to report impressive user engagement, with over 111.8 million daily active visitors, surpassing Steam by many estimates. The platform has also boosted creator payouts, making it a more attractive environment for developers building popular experiences.
