Ludeon Studios has launched “Odyssey,” a significant new expansion for the sci-fi colony simulator, RimWorld. This expansion is released concurrently with a free 1.6 update, available to all players, including those who only own the base game.
Odyssey marks the sixth major expansion for RimWorld and places a strong emphasis on exploration. Players can now build their own gravship to traverse the planet and explore diverse new biomes such as the glowforest, the scarlands, the glacial plains, and the lava fields. These fresh environments introduce unique landmarks, including cliffs, fjords, and ancient structures rich with potential resources.
Beyond planetary travel, the gravship allows venturing into space. Orbiting wrecked platforms, derelict satellites, and asteroids can be explored to gather additional resources. However, players should prepare for dangerous encounters with space scavengers and hostile mechanoids. Navigating the harsh conditions of space also requires meticulous management of the gravship`s systems, such as maintaining power, ensuring oxygen flow, and constructing airlocks to prevent depressurization.
For players who don`t purchase the Odyssey expansion, the accompanying free 1.6 update brings a wide array of quality-of-life enhancements to the core game. These improvements include a revamped map generation system, the introduction of flight capabilities for winged animals, and significant performance optimizations resulting in notably faster launch times. A full list of changes is detailed in the official patch notes.
