Riftbound Unleashed Reveals Vi, Piltover Enforcer and New Game Mechanics

Riftbound Unleashed Spoilers Reveal Vi, Piltover Enforcer, As The Next Legend Hitting Tabletops

The third major expansion for the collectible card game League of Legends: Riftbound, titled Riftbound Unleashed, is set to launch soon. Riot Games has unveiled a new legendary card: Vi, Piltover Enforcer, a character originating from the popular animated series Arcane.

Riftbound continues to expand its universe, bringing more characters from League of Legends to the tabletop. Jinx from Arcane was previously introduced in the first set, Origins, as Jinx, Loose Cannon. Now, her sister, Vi, Piltover Enforcer, joins as a leading Legend, representing the Fury and Order (red and yellow) playstyles. The Vi card will be available in multiple versions, including a collector-focused “Overnumbered Signature Edition.”

Vi, Piltover Enforcer, is a Legend capable of controlling the game zone from the very beginning of a match. Her abilities define the player’s domain identity with Red and Yellow colors. While her skills do not directly utilize the new mechanics introduced in Riftbound Unleashed, they integrate well with cards from previous sets and can be effectively combined with the new mechanics arriving with Unleashed on May 8th.

The previously revealed Vi, Hotheaded card reintroduces the “Deflect” keyword, which was absent from Spiritforged (but present in Origins), and allows players to double her might for a specific cost. The Riftbound Spiritforged expansion also brought equipment to the game, which synergizes excellently with the new Vi, Piltover Enforcer, and Vi, Hotheaded cards, creating potentially powerful combinations. For example, the B.F. Sword from Spiritforged can be used with Vi, Hotheaded, to further double her might, reaching a staggering 12. This can then activate Vi, Piltover Enforcer’s effect if the defenders have 9 or less might, allowing Vi, Hotheaded to be readied again for further battlefield actions.

New Keywords, Abilities, and Effects in Riftbound Unleashed:

  • Ambush: A keyword that allows a unit to be played anytime a reaction can normally be played, provided the battlefield already contains units you control.
  • XP: A new mechanic using a stored currency called XP, which players can spend to activate effects. For instance, Poppy, Keeper of the Hammer, lets players draw a card for 3 XP, while Kha’Zix, Voidreaver, utilizes two different XP-based abilities to dominate opponents.
  • Hunt: When a unit with this keyword conquers or holds a battlefield, the player gains 1 XP.
  • Level: A mechanic that uses your total XP stockpile to determine level. If a card has “Level 3,” it means a player needs at least 3 XP stored to activate that ability.
  • Token Battlefields: These are new battlefields that enter play when certain units are deployed and follow their own specific rules, such as the Baron Pit token battlefield.

League of Legends: Riftbound Unleashed will be available in stores and for play on May 8th.
