Resident Evil Requiem Trailer Reveals Grace Ashcroft’s Backstory

At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Capcom unveiled a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, offering insights into the backstory of its main character, Grace Ashcroft, and featuring her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, a journalist who appeared in the 2003 game Resident Evil Outbreak.

The trailer opens with Grace and Alyssa in a hotel room. Grace answers a mysterious phone call, after which the caller immediately hangs up, and the hotel lights abruptly go out, marking the beginning of a chaotic sequence of events.

The two women eventually encounter the hotel manager, who is suddenly attacked by a hooded, pale-skinned assailant wielding a plastic bag. This attacker, reminiscent of the undead or the zealots from Resident Evil 4, forces Grace and Alyssa to flee for their lives. The trailer concludes dramatically as Grace, walking ahead of her mother, turns back and lets out a scream.

This trailer shed more light on Grace, who was previously introduced as a playable character in Capcom`s June preview of Resident Evil Requiem. Given that the initial reveal trailer showed Grace as an FBI analyst years after her mother`s death, this new footage helps to explain earlier narrative gaps, providing a glimpse into her past.

The Resident Evil Requiem trailer was just one of many reveals at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The event also included updates for games like The Outer Worlds 2, Ghost of Yotei, and Silent Hill F, alongside announcements for new titles such as Lords of the Fallen 2, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the successor to Black Myth: Wukong.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
