Resident Evil Requiem: Director Promises “Most Extreme” Entry

Scheduled for release next year, Resident Evil Requiem will introduce players to its newest protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. Early trailers have already depicted Grace facing overwhelming danger, yet director Kōshi Nakanishi suggests her journey will feature an unparalleled transformation. According to Nakanishi, Grace`s evolution from a vulnerable state to one of power could represent the `most extreme gap` ever depicted in the storied franchise.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Nakanishi shared insights into the game`s development. “We`re at the testing phase now… I really feel that it`s going to be an incredible rollercoaster,” he stated. He further elaborated on the emotional impact, noting, “The curve of tension to release is going to be… perhaps the most extreme gap between those two axes. The points on that curve are going to be so far apart from each other that it`s going to be incredible.”

To provide a glimpse into the game`s challenges without spoiling crucial details, Nakanishi referenced the relentless creature seen pursuing Grace in the promotional footage. This entity marks the latest in a line of iconic stalker characters within the Resident Evil universe. However, Nakanishi confirmed that Grace will possess innovative methods to confront this persistent foe, even if outright elimination isn`t always the primary objective.

Nakanishi hinted at these mechanics, stating, “We`re pretty tight-lipped on the details at this stage, but we want to give players a method to overcome the stalker enemy.” He added, “What that entails is something that we`ll be getting into down the line, but I think that you`ll feel like you finally have a chance to turn the tables and deal with the stalker in a way that you haven`t been able to in past titles.”

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC on February 27, 2026. This release is part of Capcom`s broader celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, with additional anniversary plans yet to be revealed. Furthermore, a new Resident Evil film, directed by Zach Cregger, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 18, 2026, expanding the universe into cinema once more.
