Resident Evil Director Hideki Kamiya Urges Hideo Kojima for a New P.T.-Inspired Horror Game

Over a decade since its enigmatic release and subsequent delisting, P.T., the playable teaser for the canceled Silent Hills, continues to be revered as a masterclass in psychological horror and a project brimming with untapped potential. Among its most fervent admirers is Hideki Kamiya, the celebrated director responsible for landmark titles like Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry. Kamiya has openly articulated his profound wish for Hideo Kojima to conceptualize and develop a new game that captures the unique atmosphere and terrifying essence of P.T.

In a recent candid post on X (formerly Twitter), translated by IGN, Kamiya shared his thoughts on the enduring appeal of the demo, coupled with a provocative suggestion:

“If it’s impossible to resurrect P.T., Kojima should make a new game in the same style. If Kojima doesn’t do it, maybe I`ll give it a go. I hate horror though, so it wouldn’t be horror… Plus, I have no ideas.”

Kamiya has consistently voiced his admiration for P.T. in the past, even confessing that he finds the game genuinely too terrifying to experience alone. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Japanese indie horror title, The Exit 8, in attempting to satisfy the collective yearning for P.T.-esque experiences, though he personally viewed it as a “lite” rendition of the seminal demo.

Despite its unavailability through official channels, P.T.`s influence and mystique persist undiminished. Dedicated fans have famously unearthed and meticulously documented methods to track the elusive movements of Lisa, the demo`s malevolent spectral figure, further solidifying its legendary status. The demo`s profound impact is evident as it has even inspired several ambitious fan-made remakes within various game engines, including a notable recreation in Halo Infinite.

Intriguingly, Hideo Kojima`s upcoming project, OD, has already offered tantalizing glimpses that appear to subtly nod to the thematic and atmospheric spirit of Silent Hills, as observed in its initial trailer. While concrete details regarding OD remain scarce, it is widely speculated to be an exclusive horror title for Xbox Series X|S, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what could be Kojima`s next innovative foray into the genre that P.T. so masterfully redefined.
