The highly anticipated cross-play functionality for the futuristic soccer title Rematch has been postponed. Developer Sloclap announced today that the update`s release is now delayed indefinitely, following the discovery of a critical technical problem by the team. This last-minute delay is causing significant frustration among fans, as the patch was initially scheduled for release this week.
In an official statement, Sloclap explained that their “final tests” revealed a “major matchmaking issue” directly related to the cross-play feature, necessitating the postponement. “Given that cross-play is central to Patch 3, we have opted to delay its launch until this issue is resolved,” the developer stated. “We understand this is disappointing and sincerely apologize for the consecutive delays. We appreciate your patience and ongoing support, and we will provide further updates as soon as they become available.”
This marks the second postponement for the crucial cross-play update, which Sloclap had initially aimed to release by the close of August.
Beyond the cross-play integration, Patch 3 for Rematch will introduce several gameplay adjustments, most notably refinements to the volley system. Sloclap clarified that these changes would “eliminate scenarios where players appeared to move unnaturally fast towards their volley target, which was perceived as both unrealistic and unjust.” Furthermore, the upcoming patch will reduce the power bonus associated with the aerial “extra effort” volley shot.
Rematch, which launched in June, successfully attracted over 5 million players within its first month. However, it`s important to note that this $30 title`s impressive player count doesn`t directly translate to sales, as the game is also widely accessible through Microsoft`s Game Pass subscription service. The game itself is set decades into the future and offers a distinctive rule set, completely devoid of traditional soccer elements such as fouls, offsides, penalty kicks, draws, or shootouts.
