After an absence of over seven years, Amazon has surprisingly restocked two highly sought-after Nintendo Amiibo figures. Enthusiasts of the Super Mario series can now acquire the Koopa Troopa and Goomba Amiibo for $16 each. As these items are directly fulfilled by Amazon, collectors should act quickly, as these iconic Mario adversaries are unlikely to stay in stock for long. Both figures belong to the long-discontinued Super Mario Amiibo line.
Originally launched in the U.S. in October 2017, both figures quickly sold out on Amazon before 2018 began. Given that the standard price for Nintendo Switch Amiibo has recently risen to $20, purchasing Koopa Troopa and Goomba at $16 offers a 20% saving. Similarly, the Sora Amiibo from Kingdom Hearts, released earlier in 2024, is also available for $16.
Rare Amiibo Resurface on Amazon

Beyond the Mario characters, other notable Amiibo finds include the Pearl & Marina 2-Pack for Splatoon fans, priced at $25, which represents a $10 discount from its retail price and is nearing depletion. Additionally, the European version of the Robin Amiibo from Fire Emblem is unexpectedly available for $20.90. While a wide array of Switch Amiibo figures can be found on Amazon, these particular items (Koopa Troopa, Goomba, Sora, Pearl & Marina, and Robin) are currently the only ones directly sold and shipped by Amazon, suggesting more reliable availability and potentially better pricing for collectors.
The Goomba Amiibo first arrived on October 6, 2017, coinciding with the debut of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser`s Minions for the Nintendo 3DS. Notably, Goomba and Koopa Troopa were the sole Amiibo figures launched alongside a Mario role-playing game. Within Bowser’s Minions, the Goomba figure unlocks a Gold Goomba and various stamp sheets. Its utility extends to other Nintendo 3DS games, such as WarioWare Gold, where scanning the figure leads to a hilariously crude drawing of Goomba by Wario.
On the Nintendo Switch, the Goomba Amiibo provides unique functionalities in titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser`s Fury, Super Mario Party, and Bayonetta 2. In Super Mario Party, for instance, it grants an exclusive shiny Goomba sticker.
The Koopa Troopa Amiibo, released concurrently with Goomba, offers similar features for Superstar Saga + Bowser`s Minions, unlocking a Gold Koopa Troopa and themed stamp sheets for both the main story and the Bowser’s Minions mode. It also supports various other Mario games on the 3DS, and predictably, Wario`s artistic rendition of Koopa Troopa is equally unrefined. For Switch users, the Koopa Troopa Amiibo functions much like Goomba in Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bowser`s Fury, Bayonetta 2, and Super Mario Party. It unlocks the Koopa Troopa Spirit in Smash Bros., and if a Koopa sticker isn`t present in Super Mario Party, it provides the Goomba sticker. Furthermore, the Koopa Troopa Amiibo unlocks exclusive costumes in Conga Master Party and Yoshi`s Crafted World.
Goombas and Koopa Troopas have been integral antagonists in the Super Mario universe since the very first Super Mario Bros. game launched on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985. In the memorable World 1-1, Mario first encounters these perpetually grumpy mushroom-like creatures and the always-grinning tortoise-like Koopa Troopas. Players quickly master stomping on Goombas and utilizing Koopa shells as potent projectiles – a core gameplay mechanic that has endured for nearly four decades.
Nintendo has continuously innovated Bowser`s diverse army, yet Goombas and Koopa Troopas remain ubiquitous across the vast majority of Super Mario platformers and spin-offs. Their consistent presence together in games makes it particularly fitting that Amazon has simultaneously restocked both of these cherished collectible Amiibo figures.
