Ralph Ineson Delivers Stark Message on Reportedly Canceled Assassin’s Creed Game

Ralph Ineson, the actor recognized for his portrayal of the pirate Charles Vane in Assassin`s Creed IV: Black Flag, has vocalized a strong reaction to recent reports alleging that Ubisoft canceled an Assassin`s Creed title set during the American Civil War.

Ineson`s sentiment, shared on social media, was a direct and unequivocal: “Once again, f**k off.”

According to a report by Game File, the proposed historical backdrop for the game—the tumultuous American Civil War and the subsequent Reconstruction era of the 1860s and 1870s—was deemed overly controversial. The same report indicated that the project was halted early in its development cycle. The game was envisioned to feature a Black protagonist who escapes enslavement and builds a new life outside the Southern states, only to be later recruited by the Assassins. This character would then return to the South to confront and dismantle prominent racist organizations, including the infamous Ku Klux Klan.

Such a setting would not have been unprecedented for the franchise in North America. Assassin`s Creed III, for instance, immersed players in the American Revolution across 18th-century Boston, New York City, and the vast American frontier. Even that installment faced its share of controversy, notably with its post-launch DLC, “The Tyranny of King Washington,” which explored an alternative reality where George Washington crowned himself king.

Ineson is an accomplished English actor with an impressive filmography boasting over 150 credits. His recent work includes voicing Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He is also widely recognized for his roles in acclaimed productions such as The Office, Game of Thrones, Chernobyl, The Witch, The Green Knight, and The Creator. Beyond his memorable appearance in Black Flag, his video game resume extends to titles like Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI.

Furthermore, a remake of Assassin`s Creed IV: Black Flag is reportedly in active development, with an anticipated release date in 2026.
