The exclusive 4K Blu-ray Steelbook edition of “The Long Walk” is now available for preorder on Amazon. This highly anticipated item, priced at $35, has rapidly become Amazon`s top-selling movie. Given its affordable cost, the film`s broad appeal, and the distinctive interactive cover art prominently featuring Mark Hamill, enthusiasts of Stephen King are encouraged to place their orders promptly. It`s highly probable that this limited Steelbook edition of “The Long Walk” will sell out quickly, and its price might even increase, as it currently undercuts the standard 1080p Blu-ray by $5.
Critically acclaimed, this dystopian thriller stands among Stephen King`s most highly-rated film adaptations, boasting an impressive 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Francis Lawrence and penned by JT Mollner, the movie features a notable cast including Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill.

“The Long Walk” is slated to be one of three King adaptations released in theaters in 2025, and it`s the first of these to offer a Steelbook Edition. Additionally, fans can now preorder the first standalone hardcover edition of the original 1979 novel from Amazon. Below, we delve deeper into the various physical editions available for both the new film adaptation and the classic King novel.
The Steelbook Edition of “The Long Walk” includes the movie in 4K Blu-ray, 1080p Blu-ray, and digital formats. The steelbook itself showcases Mark Hamill`s villainous character, the Major, on the front, with contestants` dog tags on the reverse. A transparent sleeve adds an interactive element, altering the Major`s sunglasses to reveal the reflection of young men walking. Removing the sleeve makes this reflection vanish. The interior art features the contestants marching with a tank trailing behind them.
While specific special features and technical specifications are yet to be revealed, buyers can anticipate bonus behind-the-scenes content alongside support for HDR and immersive surround sound.
The Long Walk Editions:
- 4K Blu-ray Steelbook: $35
- Blu-ray: $40
- DVD: $30
For those wishing to read Stephen King`s foundational novel either before or after viewing the film, Scribner will release a new hardcover edition of “The Long Walk” on October 7. While new editions of King`s works often accompany adaptations, these are typically paperbacks. Therefore, this forthcoming hardcover edition represents a significant release for dedicated King collectors.
Remarkably, this marks the first time a standalone hardcover edition of “The Long Walk” will be widely available in bookstores and major retail outlets. This is due to the novel being one of several King penned under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, with Bachman`s works initially published exclusively in paperback format. Although “The Long Walk” was released in 1979, it holds the distinction of being the very first novel King ever wrote.
After King publicly disclosed his identity as Bachman in 1985, “The Long Walk” and three other pseudonymously published books were compiled into a hardcover collection titled “The Bachman Books.” A high-priced Limited Edition of “The Long Walk” was also issued by Centipede Press in 2023.
Earlier this month, Scribner also published a paperback tie-in edition, featuring the movie poster as its cover. Amazon currently offers a limited-time deal, reducing the price of this edition to $14.24.
The Long Walk by Stephen King:
- Hardcover: $29 (Releases October 7)
- Paperback (movie cover): $14.24 (
$19) - Paperback: $15.67 (
$19) - Mass Market Paperback: $12
Fans interested in “The Long Walk” hardcover might also consider preordering the hardcover edition of “The Running Man.” Also originally written by King under the Bachman pseudonym, this novel is likewise receiving its first standalone hardcover release. “The Running Man” hardcover edition will be available October 14 for $29. A new film adaptation of “The Running Man,” starring Glen Powell and directed by Edgar Wright, is set to premiere November 7, promising a more faithful interpretation of the source material than the 1987 film featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Stephen King Movies on 4K Blu-ray

As previously mentioned, “The Long Walk” is the first 2025 King adaptation confirmed with a Steelbook Edition, though it would be surprising if “The Running Man” doesn`t eventually receive one. The other two 2025 adaptations currently without Steelbook Editions are “The Life of Chuck” and “The Monkey.” “The Monkey,” a horror-comedy about a cursed toy, directed by Osgood Perkins, saw a standard 4K Blu-ray release in June and is currently available on Amazon for $19.67 (originally $43). Meanwhile, “The Life of Chuck,” a fantasy drama directed by Mike Flanagan, will release its 4K Blu-ray edition on September 30, with preorders open at Amazon for $27.49 (originally $40).
Numerous older film adaptations of King`s works have also been re-released in new 4K Blu-ray editions this year. Highlights include “The Dead Zone Limited Edition Steelbook” released in June as an Amazon exclusive, “The Dark Half” finally restored in 4K in July, and “Creepshow 2” arriving later this month as a Limited Edition from Arrow Video. The 1990 film “Graveyard Shift” also received a 4K Blu-ray release this year, though it is generally considered to be of lower quality compared to the other mentioned titles.
